ICRC, NPA, PPP, Others to Enhance Nigerian Economy

said this on Friday during a two days monitoring visit of the commission to
Nigerian Port Authority in Port Harcourt.
He
said that the aim of the visit was to assess the level of progress made in
implementing the projects compliance with the terms and conditions of contract
agreement signed by NPA and PPP.
“We
are keen on having on the sport assessment of facilities within the terminals
in compliance with the development plans handed down to the terminals
operators.

We are also interested in further reviewing the challenges faced by the parties
and recommending possible lines of action towards resolving them,” he said.

Izuwah
noted the challenges raised by the parties on dredging of ports access channels
and berths to its covenanted depth, quay walls condition in the port, low dwell
time for cargos as a result of low storage rates.
Others
are low assess road to the ports, non-functional scanners, slow wreck removal
and problem of utilities like electricity and water supply, no existence of
rail connection to the port and multiple of government agencies around the port
area,”Izuwah said.
He
said that the commission had also noted the concerns raised by NPA as delay or
partial payment of lease fees, non-achievement of the project guaranteed
minimum tonnage by the operators, no optimal implementation of development
plans and slow response to request for information on terminal operations.
In
his response, Mr Silvano Bellinato, the General Manager of INTELS Nigeria
Limited commended ICRC for their support and effort to the growth of their
business and the economy of the country.
Silvano
who was represented by Mr Michael Ndon, the Regional Human Resources Manager
 said that the company has a very good relationship with NPA and the host
communities.
