Mr Abiodun Tobun, Member, Lagos House of Assembly, representing Epe constituency 1, said that the building of 450 capacity Lagferry terminal by Lagos state government in Epe would commence soon.
Tobun said in Epe, on Thursday.
Tobun also the Chairman, House Committee on Works, Roads and Housing, said that the House committee members had meet with the government and agreement had been reached to commence the world standard terminal any time soon.
He said that the terminal would be built at Marina Waterfront in Epe.
He listed some of the departments to be included in the terminal as: administrative offices, car oark, lobbying, walkway, restaurant, waiting/boarding room, restroom, first aid room among several others.
The lawmaker said the Government had deployed two ferries to Epe jetty to convey commuters to the urban city and upon completion of the terminal the government would deploy more ferries to the terminal point.
He said that the ferries and boats would be plying from Epe to Falomo, CMS, Apapa and other areas of connectivity.
Tobun said this development would discongest traffic on the road, as travellers would have alternative means of transportation.
“It will dislodge and discongest traffic at Apapa area, as people will be transporting their containers to Epe terminal now.
“The waterways is safer, cheaper and faster to travel with it to your various destinations in Lagos city.
“Therefore, residents and travellers should endeavour to ply through waterways, as alternative means of transportation, “he said.
The lawmaker said that the terminal would accommodate a 450 car park space and would generate hundreds of employment for the indigenes of Epe.
“It will also boost both the local and state government revenues.
“It will improve the socioeconomic status of Epe community and provide employment opportunity for the youths, “he said.
Tobun assured the people of Epe community of continuous government presence in the ancient community.
He said that, he would ensure that no stone was left unturned, as the community would witness a tremendous improvement and progress in this present presentation.
Tobun commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat for their continuous support on the development of infrastructure across the city.
