New national quality policy excites ACCI

By Moses Uwagbale

The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has applauded the approval of the National Quality Policy by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Alhaji Abubakar Al-Mujtaba, President, Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) gave the commendation on Friday in Abuja while reacting to the approval by FEC.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Wednesday approved the policy which is designed to ensure that goods exported from Nigeria are acceptable to the countries of destination.

Al-Mujtaba said the chamber was particularly elated that the policy was emerging within the context of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)

He noted that it would stimulate and facilitate more opportunities for the private sector, small and medium-sized companies, entrepreneurs, traders and farmers, including young people and women.

According to him, it will also boost the Nigerian private sector’s competitiveness and entrench consumer protection in line with the country’s industrialisation plan.

“We support the assertion of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, that for a long time, Nigerian exporters have been suffering because of lack of quality of their goods”

“This policy will create a situation whereby the government and the private sector will be able to collaborate to set up quality testing centres and testing labs.

“These we hope will have accreditation with international centres, such that any good that has approved to have met the standard, would be of international standard.

“We therefore pledge our full support for the implementation of the policy. We also urge the administration to sustain the political will necessary to realise the lofty goals of the policy, ” ACCI boss said.
