British retailer Debenhams to cut 2,500 jobs

By DPA

British retailer Debenhams said it would cut 2,500 jobs in stores and warehouses to reduce costs amid lower sales following the coronavirus lockdown.

In addition to the pandemic, the department store chain has suffered from online retail competition.

As part of a management restructuring process it plans to ditch several positions, including sales manager.

In April it went into administration.

Following the easing of lockdown measures, the company recently reopened 124 stores in Britain.

Founded in 1778, the company previously cut about 4,000 jobs.

The company currently has around 14,500 employees.
