Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) urged senior officials of the government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) to collaborate in establishing the first free trade zone (FTZ) and also constructing more special economic zones (SEZs) in the Kingdom.

The request was made during Chanthol’s recent meeting with He Lifeng, Vice Premier of the State Council of PRC and Zhou Zuyi, Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in China.

During the meeting, Chanthol also underlined the diplomatic relations between Cambodia and China in the new era, leading to the implementation of the action plan for establishing a common destiny community and strengthening the diamond cooperation framework.

The Deputy Prime Minister said, “The initiative aimed at achieving a common destiny with high quality and standard for the two countries in 2024-2028.”

He recalled the meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet and Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs and Minister of Foreign Affairs of PRC on April 22 where the Premier requested the Chinese government to examine the possibility of establishing the Cambodia-China FTZ and SEZs.

“On July 19, the RGC named the ‘Xi Jinping Boulevard’ to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between both nations, a testament to supporting the China One policy and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI),” he added.

Chanthol also informed the public about the investment opportunities and the intention of RGC to attract international investors worldwide to invest in the Kingdom, especially by establishing the FTZ and manufacturing companies to produce electronic and automotive components.
