A maritime organisation, Mission to Seafarers, Lagos (MTS Lagos) on Friday pledged its continued devotion to the cause of seafarers.
The Chairman, MTS Lagos, Mr Adebayo Sarumi, made the promise in a statement and said that the Mission to Seafarers – Lagos joined other organisations and nations in celebrating with all workers on this year’s International Labour Day.
“Ordinarily, the International Labour Day is set aside to recognise, appreciate and commend workers in their diligent pursuit and dignified labour in building nations.
“We, in particular, salute the courage and verve of seafarers and maritime workers who on a daily basis, sacrifice lives and limbs to keep global trade afloat.
“This year has, however, been anything but ordinary and amidst the throes of a ravaging pandemic and its damning recourse on lives, including a projected global recession.
“Seafarers have remained steadfast in the frontline of the scourge, continually and relentlessly, labouring in buoying the global economy.
“This is the stark reality in the face of attendant challenges on their families and their working environment,” he said.
Sarumi said that the MTS-Lagos equally recognised the efforts of shipping fleets, maritime agencies as well as fellow seafarer welfare institutions who, collaboratively, had been protecting, promoting and enhancing the lot of seafarers, especially, in this clime.
He said that the mission was hopeful that everyone would ride this storm to emerge stronger and even better-placed to face the multitude of challenges life might rear their ugly heads in the future.
“We are certain that the good Lord who has brought us all this far shall continue to abide with us all.
“And so, we congratulate and celebrate you seafarers at this auspicious hour and pledge our continued devotion to your cause,” he said.
