Farmland has become significantly more expensive in Germany, figures released by the Federal Statistics Office (Destatis) revealed on Wednesday.
Prices have increased some 230 per cent in the years from 2009 to 2018, or 2.3 times their previous levels, Destatis reported on Wednesday.
Non-agricultural investors, who are increasingly putting their money into agricultural land, are responsible for the development, the office said.
Price rises were not even across the regions, Destatis said.
The statistic shows that the increases were highest in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern where farmland is now 2.9 times more expensive, and Saxony, 2.7 times.
The eastern German states excluding Berlin saw farmland rise 2.6 times in price on average.
Arable land in western German states also saw rise in Bavaria, where it is 2.6 more expensive and Lower Saxony, 2.4 times.
The lowest rises were in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate which both saw prices climb to 1.4 times their previous levels.
