Onne Port generates N301bn, set to beat revenue target
Port Harcourt, Dec. 21, 2023: The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Onne, Area 11 Command said it had so far generated N301 billion representing 90 per cent on its revenue target for the 2023 fiscal year.
The Command’s Comptroller, Baba Imam, disclosed this on Wednesday in Onne, Rivers, during an end of year recognition/award presentation to officers, consignees and stakeholders.
The recognition was initiated to boost morales in officers and other stakeholders who had positively contributed to revenue growth and achievements by the command.
The Comptroller also said that the event became necessary to enable the command reflect on its successes and achievements in the past months and to also identify gaps so as to initiate mechanisms that would enhance business in 2024.
“Our revenue target for the year is about N336 billion and as at today, we have been able to secure N301 billion representing about 90 per cent of our target,” the comptroller said.
On smuggling, the comptroller noted that the command had taken steps that would continue to serve as deterrent to offenders of import laws by ensuring that there was conformity to import guidelines.
He also revealed that about 39 containers made up total number of seizures recorded within the period under review.
He however, added that training and re-training of officers and consignees were a major boost to the years achievements.
“Notably, amongst the nature of imported items which contravened import guidelines were; used clothing, tyres, Concealments of hard drugs, pistols and the likes which were subsequently handed over to relevant authorities,” he added.
On his part, Mr Mike Ebeatu, Onne chapter Chairman, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), commended the comptroller for providing enabling business environment through consistent synergy and sensitisation of consignees.
He also lauded the comptroller for promoting serenity which he said had led to visibly satisfying ambiance within the Command.
