Procter and Gamble delivers 25b litres of potable water

Procter and Gamble is celebrating its 2020 goal of delivery 15 billion litres of potable water.

The clean drinking water is delivered through its non-profit children’s safe drinking water CSDW program.

The company is improving on providing clean drinking water to more people by delivering 25 billion litres which is more than 100 glasses of water worldwide.

Procter and Gamble disclosed this in Abuja during the 2019 World Water day and co-hosted by the Global Citizen.

The company also announced new project with a humanitarian organization targeted at high water need communities in the Northeast.

Since the programme  was launched in 2004, Procter and Gamble has worked closely with a network of more than 150 partners to raise awareness of the global water crisis and provide water to families in more than 90 countries through simple purification process invented by a Procter and Gamble laundry scientist.

Adil Farhat, the Managing Director, P and G said:  “With just one packet of purifier, bucket,  stick, a clean cloth, 10 litres of dirty, potentially deadly water can be turned into clean drinking water in only 30 minutes.

The Procter and Gamble efforts to provide access to clean water is transforming communities by improving health, enabling education and increasing economic opportunities. 

“We are excited about this 15 billion litres milestone and are committed to providing access to clean water for more families in the year ahead.

“Procter and Gamble has provided approximately 240million litres of clean water in Nigeria since the program began in 2004 and we will intensify our WASH efforts in schools and continue our work in collaboration with many stakeholders.”

Speaking, the Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu said WASH forms a central part of the sustainable development goals SDGs and it is imperative that good progress is made towards achieving it.

He continued that the contribution and commitment of everyone is required to ensure deliberate attention is given to WASH and accelerate a Nigeria with safe drinking water with no open defecation, that is why the efforts of Procter and Gamble and Global Citizen to provide safe drinking water is highly commendable.
