Kaduna commences sanitisation on levy collections

The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) has begun data capturing of commercial vehicles and placement of stickers to sanitise levy collections in the state.

KADIRS’ Head of Corporate Communication, Mr Zakari Muhammad, said in a statement in Kaduna, that the measure would address the problem of having unauthorised persons or touts in levy collections in the state.

Muhammad explained that the exercise would be conducted free-of-charge in four pilot local government areas (LGAs) of the state in the next two weeks before being extended to other parts of the state.

He identified the LGAs as Kaduna South, Kaduna North, Igabi and Chukun, saying that all commercial vehicle owners in the LGAs should submit to the data capturing and placement of vehicle stickers free by KADIRS Transport Sector Teams.

“Our teams have been strategically positioned in all the major routes in the four LGAs, including bus-stops and units,” he said.

He advised the commercial vehicle owners to utilise the opportunity to register and get their stickers free within five minutes.

According to him, failure to comply within the two weeks grace period will attract sanctions.

“This innovation will bring sanity in levy collections and do away with touts who are harassing and intimidating commercial vehicle owners on our roads,”

“KADIRS is, therefore, calling on all unions in the transport sector, to encourage their members to participate and support the process.

“The management of the service appreciates your cooperation and understanding,” Muhammad said.
