RDI supports farmers with N10.9bn soft loans

By Anthony Areh

The Rural Development Initiative (RDI), a subsidiary of Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO) Group, says it has supported 129,637 rural farmers with N10.9 billion  soft loans in 2019.

Mr Wisdom Abhulimen, Head Advocacy and Communication, LAPO, said in a statement made available to journalists on Monday in Benin.

Abhulimen said the statistics were released by Dr Osarenren Emokpae, Chairman, Board of Directors of LAPO, at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting for the financial year ended Dec. 31, 2019.

He quoted the chairman as saying that the N10.9 billion represented 49 per cent increase over N7.3 billion disbursed in 2018.

“The organisation has been pushing the developmental agenda in Nigeria and playing a leading role in addressing poverty, hunger and disease in the country.

“This is being achieved through innovative measures aimed at removing financial barriers to sustainable livelihood and preventing access to healthcare services,” Emokpae was quoted as saying.

The chairman said the organisation would continue to deepen its services in targeted communities through the involvement of community-based organisations in programme implementation.

He appreciated the partners for supporting the LAPO dream of ensuring a poverty-free world.
