Bureau seeks BPE’s support on moribund firms
The Director-General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Mr Dasuki Arabi has sought the assistance of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) to reform some moribund industries in the country.
The Director-General (D-G) of BPSR said this in a statement signed by Amina Othman, the BPE Head of Public Communications on Friday in Abuja.
Arabi made the appeal when he led the management staff of his agency to visit the D-G of the BPE and his team.
Arabi said the BPSR had received several requests from state governments in the country to revive their dying industries, adding that with the repository of knowledge at the BPE as a foremost reform agency, it was appropriate to collaborate with the Bureau.
He said Gombe Government for instance had requested the BPSR to reform its Tomato Company which he said with the collaboration with the BPE, it could easily be achieved.
Arabi said that BPE had a critical role to play in the mandate of the BPSR and urged the Bureau to participate actively at all the meetings of the Steering Committees of the BPSR for enhanced results.
Responding, the BPE Director of Infrastructure and Private Partnership Programme Department, Malam Sanusi Sule who represented the BPE director-general pledged the Bureau’s cooperation to synergise with the BPSR in its activities.
The D-G said BPE in its 30 years of existence had privatised more than 130 enterprises through its various privatisation processes, and carried out reforms in the various sectors which were yielding positive results.
“However, in spite the tremendous success recorded by the Bureau in reforming various sectors, we are only noted for those that are not doing well,’’ he said.
Okoh called for the disclosure of more information to the public to change the wrong perception of privatisation in the country.
