CIB reviews progress at two Svay Rieng SEZs

delegation from the Cambodian Investment Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CIB/CDC) has conducted site visits to two special economic zones (SEZs), to review the progress of development and investment in the southeastern area.

The zones includes the Xin Bavet SEZ and the Forson Giga SEZ in Chantrea district, Svay Rieng province.

Secretary General Chea Vuthy, leading the CIB delegation, inspected the production chain of the tyre manufacturing plant of Zodo Tire (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., which produces 26,000 tyres per day and 45,000 tyres in full capacity and a factory producing dry brake components that uses recycled metal as raw material of Haizhiguan (Cambodia) Industrial Co., Ltd.

Vuthy outlined the background of the establishment of SEZ under the initiative of the Royal Government in the last mandate to transform unused lands into SEZ to attract many investment projects that provide social and economic benefits to the local people and the national economy.

According to the CIB/CDC press statement, SEZs have significantly increased to 65 areas, of which 39 are actively operating. More than 250,000 local workers are employed, and there is still a demand for more than 35,000 workers.

Operating SEZs have significantly contributed to national socio-economic development, especially bringing new industrial clusters, including the tyre manufacturing industry, vehicle assembly industry, bicycle assembly industry, all kinds of electronic equipment manufacturing industry, furniture assembly and furniture products manufacturing industry, which provide jobs and decent salaries to local people, the statement added.
