Wage: TUC urges workers to be patient

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Taraba State  has urged workers in the state to remain patient with the Federal Government implementation of the new national minimum wage.

Comrade Victor Olatunde, State Chapter Chairman of the TUC, gave the advice at the 4th Quadrennials delegates Conference of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) Federal chapter in Taraba state.

Olatunde expressed optimism that the implementation of the new wage was achieveable within the shortest possible time.

He urged unions to sensitise marketers against reckless increase in prices of commodities.

He noted that the new pay rise would only impact more on junior workers, adding that senior civil servants would benefit a little from the new wage increase.

The labour leader solicited the cooperation of  ASCSN and TUC to achieving a common goal for workers.

Earlier, Comrade Solomon Abochol, outgoing Chairman of ASCSN federal chapter in Taraba, advised the union to continue to uphold cohesion among members.

Abochol, who served as the chairman of the chapter for the past eight years,  also advised gladiators for leadership of the union to uphold spirit of ‘one family’ during and after the election.

He assured of his readiness to support  incoming executives to achieve the goals of the union.

Comrade Issac Lingmu, who was elected as new chairman of the union said his mission was to ensure connectivity between federal agencies and Taraba state government.

He said  the federal agencies had been undermined by the state government, nothing that all federal workers in Taraba were contributing to socio economic development of the state.

He stressed the need to cooperate with all federal agencies working in the State to work in harmony  to achieve an improved welfare for workers of federal government.

Lingmu thanked  members of the union  for electing him for as chairman, assuring that he would run an all inclusive government.

” I have been tasted and proven by the union, because I served as an ex-officio in the last eight years.

“I am an achiever and will not afford to fail.

” My main priority is to connect the federal workers with the state government.

“Our taxes are being remitted to the Taraba state government and we are providing services for  the development of the state but the state government recognition of our presence is poor.

” I must make sure that the state government understands that we spend our salaries here and therefore, contribute immensely to the socio economic wellbeing of the state.

Lingmu, who is a staff of the Pension Division in the Office of the Head of  Civil Service of the Federation, emerged chairman of the chapter in a keenly contested election against Comrade Andrew Lodiya of Federal Government College Wukari.
