BUA completes new cement factory

BUA Group has completed its new cement factory in Okpella, Edo State, which would operate at three million tonnes per annum capacity.

The Group Head, Corporate Communications, BUA Group, O’tega Ogra, said the new factory brought the total capacity of BUA Obu Cement operations to six million tonnes, bringing the entire group’s installed capacity to 8 million MTPA.

Ogra revealed that the completion of the new factory is coming less than six months after inaugurating its 1.5 million MTPA Kalambaina Cement Plant in Sokoto State.

According to him, a date for the inauguration will be announced soon.

Speaking at a business forum recently, the Executive Chairman, BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, said that the completion of the Obu Cement’s second line puts BUA Cement in a prime position to be Nigeria’s second largest cement producers by volume in a short while.

“Through a strategic combination of BUA Cement’s newer, more energy efficient plants and the proximity of our factory locations to key regional markets across Nigeria, BUA Cement will in no time become the industry leader in capacity utilisation as well as maintaining a strong presence and brand leadership position in regional markets where it operates.”

Also,  as part of efforts to address the recurrent incidents of building collapse in Nigeria, BUA Cement had enlightened block and concrete makers on how best to mix cement with other components in order to produce quality blocks.

Mr. Nasiru Ladan, who is the General Manager in charge of Sales at BUA Cement Obu Plant, gave the assurance of the company’s continuous production of high-quality cement.

Ladan also blamed the persistent incidents of building collapse in Nigeria on the poor quality of cement which is often used by block makers.
