The Women International Maritime Africa (WIMAfrica), Nigerian chapter, in Lagos has elected Mrs Bola Muse, as the new President with 23 votes against two other contestants.
The other contestants were Mrs Obiageli Obi, who scored seven votes and Mrs Rollens Macfoy, who had one vote.
The former President of the association, Mrs Jean Chiazor-Anishere, urged the newly-elected executive members to continue with the good legacy of collaboration and dedication to enable them take the association to a greater height.
According to Chiazor-Anishere, the new executive members are not new to the missions and the visions of the association.
She, however, urged the new executive members to continue with the mentorship programmes to enable more young women participate in the shipping business.
Chiazor-Anishere, who is the current Continental President of WIMAfrica, also advised members to engage in continuous training in order to tap all the potential in the Blue Economy and acquire wealth for the country.
Also speaking, Muse said she would collaborate with her executive members to promote cooperation with national, regional and international organisations to advance the interest of women in maritime sector.
According to her, WIMAfrica Nigeria would also maintain the mainstream participation of African women in all aspects of the blue economy, including policy, advocacy as well as maritime awareness.
The new president said she would provide strategic leadership and support for the advancement of women in maritime sector in West and Central Africa.
She promised to strengthen maritime capacity in the continent for the promotion of safe, secure and efficient shipping on cleaner seas.
Muse said that mentoring of the younger generation would not be overlooked, saying that a committee would be set up to look into the issue on mentees having access to mentor.
She, however, said that the new executive members would continue with the tempo of teamwork and togetherness; being the culture of the outgoing president of the association.
