China restates win-win strategy with Africa

China will uphold a win-win strategy
through creation of new frontiers in all fronts to Africa, the Charge d’
Affairs of the Embassy of China to Nigeria, has said.
 
The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Mr Lin
Jing, said in his address in Abuja at the 69th anniversary ceremony of
the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
 
He said that significant success had so
far been recorded in 2018 that marked the 40th anniversary of reform
which benefitted every Chinese and the world at large.
 
He noted that since the past four decades, there had been remarkable improvement in the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
 
According to him, the GDP has grown more
than 200-fold to nearly 13 trillion dollars in 2017, which accounts for
15 per cent of world’s total.
 
Jing said “in the meantime, the poverty
population in China has decreased by 700 million, accounting for
two-thirds of the world’s poverty eradication.
 
“Over 10 million urban jobs were created
in the first 8 months of this year and unemployment rate was kept at
relatively low level of around five per cent.
 
“Against the backdrop of notable changes
in the global economic and trade context, we are firmly committed to
cost-effective globalisation, free trade and innovation-driven
development.
 
“We will work even harder to advance
reforms by encouraging businesses to transform and upgrade traditional
manufacturing through harnessing new technologies and stimulate
innovations.
 
“China will uphold a win-win strategy of open-up by opening wider all fronts, especially to Africa.”
 
He revealed plans by President Xi Jinping
to invest $60 billion in financing for Africa and eight major
initiatives as focus of China-Africa cooperation in the next three
years.
 
He defined relationship between China and Nigeria to be pace-setter for China-Africa overall solidarity and cooperation.
 
He mentioned that the bilateral agreement
between Nigeria and China would further deepen mutual trust, enhance
policy coordination and practical cooperation between the two countries
in all fields.
 
On his part, the Minister, Foreign
Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, said that 2018 marked the 47th anniversary
of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and China.
 
Onyeama, represented by Under Secretary
for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Lawan Gana, said that the relationship between
the two countries was built on the principle of mutual trust and one
China policy.
 
He said that the future of Nigeria-China
relations was promising and predicated on shared values and commitment
to support the anti-corruption drive and fights against terrorism.
 
According to him, the relationship is
further strengthened with signing of the strategic partnership agreement
in mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.
 
He noted that Nigeria’s economy had
rebounded due to the adoption of appropriate policy aimed at making
Nigeria attractive foreign investment destination.
 
He, however, said that Nigeria was
committed to ensure macro-economic stability to promote industrial value
addition and enhance global competitiveness through emphasis on export
of made in Nigeria goods to China.
