Education crucial for economic development
The Envoy of the Republic of South Korea to Nigeria, Ambassador Lee In-Tae, has said education was crucial for both national and economic development.
In-Tae disclosed this on Tuesday in Jos, when delivering a paper entitled” Growing the Nigerian economy through education: the South Korean model”, at the University of Jos.
He said university education system lead to economic development a virtuous circulation as it translates to high quality human resources.
The envoy further said that continuous economic development was also achieved by researches carried out in the various universities in the country.
He pointed that researches were critical to the economic development and could only be achieved by education.
He called on the government to provide more funds to the education sector in its budgetary allocation.
According to him, Nigeria just like South Korea can achieve great national development via overcoming its challenges.
The envoy tasked the Nigerian government to drive the growth of the nation by emphasising diligence, education and industrialisation.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Seddi Maimako, in his welcome address, said the university was working in collaboration with the South Korea government to establish a vocational training centre and a sporting centre in the university.
He said that the establishment of the centres would add more value to the University and would in turn make more graduates self-sufficient as they would not have to look for white collar jobs after school.
Nigeria and the South Korean government established diplomatic ties in 1980.
