Cold weather makes tea vendors make brisk business
Tea vendors are making brisk business at the on-going Jos International Trade Fair due to the cold weather that has enveloped the city.
Residents of Jos woke up to torrential rains on October 16, 2019 with the weather fluctuating between 19 degrees centigrade and 20 degrees centigrade, compelling them to look for hot liquids to warm themselves.
Some of the tea sellers who spoke to our Correspondent expressed excitement and thanks to God for the chilly weather which forced visitors to the fairground to increase their patronage of their services.
One of them, Abdullahi Musa, from Zamfara, said his sales had doubled because of the cold weather.
“I thank God for this cold weather, as I have sold almost everything for the day and people are still coming to buy tea and fried eggs from me,” Musa said.
Another tea vendor,Aminu Jubril, from Sokoto State, said that he had sold thrice his usual wares for the day, as a result of the cold weather.
He said that many people came to his pavilion to buy tea and bread for breakfast, as the weather kept biting.
‘’So many of the exhibitors are not from Plateau, and are therefore, not used to this kind of inclement weather, and so, they have to buy our tea several times to keep themselves warm,” Jubril said.
Mohammed Sani , an exhibitor from Niger Republic, said he had taken several cups of tea to keep himself warm, as he came from a country with a very hot weather.
Mrs Chinyere Eze, an exhibitor from Lagos State, also complained of the unfriendly weather, saying, she would have to buy a pair of socks and a sweater to keep herself warm.
Mr Emeka Ndu, a book seller, said he was unable to display his wares because part of the fair ground had become waterlogged due to the downpour.
The fair which suffered an initial low turnout of visitors when it commenced on Oct. 10, has now picked up, and would end on Oct. 27.
