Lokoja, Oct. 11, 2023: The Management of Dangote Cement Plc says it has not embarked on any sales promotion and adjusted its prices.

Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Dangote Group, Anthony Chiejina, made the denial in a statement issued in Lokoja on Tuesday.

Chiejina said that the company was already making moves to track and prosecute peddlers of such falsehood no matter how highly placed.

The communication officer described the misleading reports as “mischievous, malicious and false” in all its ramifications.

“Already, the Management has formally notified the law enforcement agents to track down, name and shame the perpetrators of this devious and deceptive information.

“We hereby urge our customers and other stakeholders to continue patronising the high quality cement brand and be careful of scammers, who are bent on defrauding them of their funds,” he said.

Dangote Cement unveils block moulders academy

Lagos, Aug. 9, 2023: Dangote Cement Plc has unveiled plans to establish a block moulders academy to address the spate of building collapse in the country.

The company made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos, signed by Mr Francis Awowole-Browne, Media and Communications Personnel, Dangote Industries Ltd.

The academy, according to the company, would be structured and equipped to provide the requisite skills needed by block moulders and artisans in the real estate sector of the economy.

National Sales Director, Dangote Cement Plc, Mrs Funmi Sanni, said the academy became necessary to encourage young men’s enthusiasm about the profession, seeing that most artisans and block makers were aging.

She noted that one of the surest ways to reduce the phenomenon of building collapse was to checkmate quackery, while imparting the needed skills to those in the profession.

“The company is also ready to support the block moulders who will pass through the academy with the necessary machineries and tools,” she said.

The company’s Group Head, Sales and Marketing, Mr Rabiu Umar, said Dangote Cement had contributed enormously to development of the real estate sector.

Umar said the contribution was through massive investments which made the product sufficiently available.

He identified rapid urbanisation, high cost of land acquisition, rising cost of construction materials, lack of basic infrastructure, inaccurate housing demographics, among others as some of the factors affecting the provision of housing in Nigeria.

Umar said to help address housing shortages, the company set up a department whose focus is to attend to the challenges and needs of real estate development in our market.

“The idea is to engage in project partnerships, collaborations, and participation in Real Estate development initiative in Nigeria.

“Part of our effort towards ameliorating the housing shortage is by constructing large cement plants in Nigeria and many African countries.

“These plants ensure that the basic raw material in the housing sector, cement, is readily available in sufficient quantities.

“We have a dedicated fleet of trucks to deliver both bagged and bulk cement to customers and construction sites and have established depots near all major markets, therefore, bridging the distance between the plants and distributors,” he said.

Dangote Cement’s pan-African sales volume up 11.6%

Lagos, July 31, 2023: Dangote Cement has reported a robust pan-African performance for the half year ended June 30, 2023.

This is contained in the company’s six months unaudited results.

It shows that sales volume for pan-African operation was up 11.6 per cent compared to 4.9 Metric tonnes (Mt) in H1 2022.

The pan-African region includes all the cement plant’s operations outside Nigeria.

The report stated that the company’s sales volume in the period under review stood at 5.4Mt while total sales volume for the group within the period was 13.4Mt.

It attributed the performance to robust demand, particularly from Ethiopia, Senegal, Zambia, and Congo.

“Hence pan-African revenues grew by 81.8 per cent to N336.4 billion; group revenue rose by 17.7 per cent to N950.8 billion.

“Recurring profit after tax was up by 37.4 per cent to N292.2 billion while profit after tax rose by 3.8 per cent to N178.6 billion,” it said.

The Chief Executive Officer, Dangote Cement, Mr Arvind Pathak, describing the results as heart-warming said the company delivered positive results in the first half of the year.

Pathak said the company’s Nigerian operations achieved a 22.6 per cent recovery in sales over the first quarter, which was impacted by the general elections and the cash crunch.

Pathak, however, noted that the steep currency devaluation in mid-June slowed the volume recovery and increased the already inflated operating cost.

“We navigated the tough terrain, thanks to our strong operational framework and rigorous focus on cost management.

“I am pleased at the remarkable improvement witnessed in our pan-Africa operations,” he said.

Pathak said the 0.4Mta grinding plant in Ghana had commenced operation while the completion of a 1.5Mta grinding plant in Cote d’Ivoire was on track.

He said the company would continue to focus on its strategic growth priorities, hinged on its vision of transforming Africa and building a sustainable future.

“I am optimistic that our business remains resilient and well positioned to overcome unforeseen macroeconomic headwinds,” he said.

Dangote Cement is Africa’s leading cement producer with 52.0Mta capacity across Africa.

The company has operations in Cameroon (1.5Mta clinker grinding), Congo (1.5Mta), Ghana (2.0Mta import), Ethiopia (2.5Mta), Senegal (1.5Mta), Sierra Leone (0.5Mta import), South Africa (2.8Mta), Tanzania (3.0Mta) and Zambia (1.5Mta).

Dangote Cement gets SEC’s approval for new share buy-back

Dangote Cement has received approval of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the establishment of a new share buy-back programme.

The company said in a Corporate Disclosure to the Nigerian Exchange Ltd. (NGX) on Wednesday that the  programme would expire on Dec.12, which means months from the date of the shareholders’ resolution.

According to the company, the share buy-back programme will be executed under the approval granted by the company’s shareholders at the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of Dangote Cement.

It said the EGM which was held on Dec. 13, 2022 was within the framework provided under Rule 398 (3)(xiv) of the SEC’s rules and regulation Rules and Regulations and under the approval of the NGX.

“The share buy-back will be undertaken through an open market offer or self-tender, at such times and on such terms as the management of the company may determine, subject to prevailing market conditions.

“The company will continue to monitor the evolving business environment and market conditions, in making decisions on tranches of the share buy-back programme,” it said.

Dangote Cement Plc is Sub-Saharan Africa’s largest cement producer with an installed capacity of 51.6Mta capacity across 10 African countries.

It operates a fully integrated “quarry-to-customer” business with activities covering manufacturing, sales and distribution of cement.

Dangote Cement shareholders approve 10% share buy-back programme

Shareholders of Dangote Cement Plc on Tuesday unanimously authorised the management of the company to undertake a share buyback of up to 10 per cent of its issued shares.

The company said this in a statement signed by Mr Francis Browne, Media and Communication Officer, Dangote Group, in Lagos.

According to the statement, Dangote cement had earlier indicated interest to undergo a share buyback programme of up to 10 per cent of its issued shares.

The approval, the company said, was given at its Extraordinary General Meeting, and recorded a 100 per cent approval from the shareholders, with many of them describing the development as a win-win situation.

This move, Dangote Cement said, would serve to improve the company’s return on equity and its shareholders’ value to facilitate the future long-term growth of the company.

“Among other resolutions, the shareholders authorised that the “Memorandum and Articles of Association of the company be amended (as applicable), upon completion of the share buyback, to reflect the company’s share capital, following the cancellation (if any) of the shares acquired and/or otherwise held by the company.

“The board was also authorised to ensure that the amendment of the articles of association of the company reflects the company’s share capital, following the cancellation (if any) of the shares acquired and/or otherwise held by the company,” it read.

Dangote Cement signs five year agreement with host communities

Dangote Cement, a leading cement manufacturer, has signed a five-year Community Development Agreement (CDA) with its Ibese plant host communities.

Dangote Cement, Ibese Plant Director, Mr Azad Nawabuddin, made this known in a statement signed by Mr Francis Awowole-Browne, Media and Communication Relations Personnel, Dangote Industries Limited on Thursday in Lagos.

Nawabuddin said the decision to sign the agreement was a demonstration of the company’s commitment to human capital and infrastructural development of its host communities.

He added that the move was to underpin the fact that the company was irrevocably committed to the wellbeing of the residents in all the communities.

He said that the agreement signalled a new dawn for both the company and the host communities in the execution of the laid out social investment projects under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) activities.

Nawabuddin said the company signed the first CDA in 2013 that marked the beginning of concrete infrastructural and social support in employment, education, health, training among others to improve the standard of living in host communities.

He said the new CDA is an improvement as it was fashioned to surpass previous performance through positive impact on the various stakeholder groups, especially the vulnerable in our communities.

He added that the document stated clearly the consultative framework for engagements, grievance management and obligations of both the plant and the host communities for mutual growth and development.

“In putting this together, we applied all the lessons from the implementation of the former and thoroughly engaged with the different stakeholder groups across the 17 host communities, with the guidance of the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.

“We gather as key stakeholders in fulfillment of the provisions of section 116 of the Minerals and Mining Act 2007, and 193 of the Minerals and Mining Regulations 2011 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“This occasion is a demonstration of our commitment to the development and overall well-being of our host communities and their people, as a responsible corporate entity.

“It is clearly a path to define relationships, commitments, obligations and expectations with potential to address immediate concerns and future social issues that may arise, once all parties are committed to its full implementation,” he said.

The Dangote Cement Plant Director, affirming the company’s commitment to fulfilling all its obligations, charged the host communities to keep their end of the bargain to foster all round development.

The traditional leader of the Aga-Olowo, Olu of Aga-Olowo, Oba Kayode Kusoro, expressed his community’s appreciation to the management of Dangote Cement for its warm reception and commitment to CSR for the host communities.

In commending the company’s openness and transparency in the all-inclusive agreement signing process, he expressed hope that the company would keep faith with the letters of the agreement.

Also, the traditional leader of Imasayi, Olu of Imasayi, Oba Lukmon Kuoye, said that the signing of the new agreement was a clear departure from the past exercises as all representatives of the host communities and stakeholders were involved in the review and signing of the fresh agreement.

He stated that what the communities owed Dangote Cement was a continuous collaboration to ensure that the company operates in an environment devoid of crisis which he promised the royal fathers would work towards.

Remarking, the Aboro of Iboroland (traditional leader of Iboroland), Oba Daniel Salako, expressed his satisfaction with the fresh agreement which he considered to be better and more inclusive that the previous ones.

“This CDA is good for us all.

“Though the fresh agreement is limited to the existing seventeen host communities and cannot cover the entire Yewaland for now, but it is subject to future amendments that will conceive legacy projects for the benefits of the people of Yewaland,” he said.

The signing of the fresh agreement, each of the host communities will from 2022-2026 be entitled to specific projects that will add value to the lives and livelihood of the people.

Dangote cement kicks off ‘bag of goodies 3’ promo

Dangote Cement Plc on Tuesday launched the national consumer promotion ‘Bag of Goodies Season 3 Promo’, aimed at rewarding new and existing consumers with financial and material palliatives.

The promo which is tagged: “Spell Dangote and Become a Multi-millionaire” is expected to run from July 5 to October 31.

The Bag of Goodies 3” is available in the Dangote Cement SKUs -3X, Falcon and Bloc master products.

Speaking at the launch, Mrs Funmi Sanni, National Sales Director, said that the promo was aimed at boosting the economy of consumers and giving them “financial wings.”

Sanni revealed that over 32.3 billion Naira worth of prizes would be won, with one billion Naira in cash prizes over the next 16 weeks (four months).

She added that this year’s edition had a new and unique category, with a chance for customers to win 5 million Naira in the mega star prize category.

According to her, there are three categories of prizes which are: instant win, star prize and mega star prize.

Dangote boost cement production  

Dangote Cement Plc has unveiled plans to empower some stakeholders in the Palm Kernel Shell (PKS) value chain as part of its contribution to global environmental preservation.  

The company made this known in a statement signed by Mr Francis Awowole-Browne, Corporate Communications Officer, Dangote Industries Ltd., on Wednesday in Lagos.  

Head, Alternative Fuel Project, Dangote Cement Plc, Engr Peter Anagbe, said during a visit to Irewole Local Government Area, Osun, that the company was committed to ascertaining the needs of the community and empowering them.  

Anagbe added that the move was part of the company’s strategies to shore up and sustain availability of PKS as waste, which is co-processed in the cement kiln to recover energy.  

He said the company had instituted periodic value chain analysis and community engagements with the PKS waste collectors as well as the palm oil millers in communities across Nigeria.  

Anagbe explained that the visit was necessitated by the shift in global attention to alternative fuel sourcing, expected to contribute to the realisation of ‘zero emission’ and ‘zero waste’ concepts.  

He added that alternative fuel could be produced from other agricultural wastes, municipal wastes, commercial and industrial wastes, thereby contributing to minimise waste to landfills.  

“This whole drive is to explore avenues to empower them to bolster production which in effect would lead to sustainable generation of PKS to be co-processed in the cement kilns, leaving zero waste,” he said.  

Also, Head, Sustainability, Dr Igazeuma Okoroba, told the community that the company was desirous of ensuring sustainable collection of waste materials as PKS, to improve the environment and act as a source of livelihood for them.  

He urged the people to always look at alternative value adding opportunities to waste, taking a cue from the PKS which hitherto was openly incinerated as waste, leading to environmental pollution.  

One of the community leaders, Elder Hammed Adekunle, said the main stay of the community’s economy was palm oil milling and that the use of PKS for co-processing, offered them opportunity to expand and diversify.  

He said the community would appreciate any support from Dangote Cement to enable them acquire modern machines to process the palm oil and in turn, generate PKS.  

“The entire process of getting PKS from the harvesting of palm tree involves as much as 30 people depending on the volume of the palm tree being harvested.  

“This visit means Dangote cement values us as a critical stakeholder in the value chain of ensuring zero waste-to-landfill by evacuating the waste palm kernel shell (PKS),” he said.  

Also, the Dangote team met with various stakeholders within the Ikire hub, Osun, during which the actors in the value chain enumerated the challenges faced by them while trying to collect the waste from different locations.  

Meanwhile, Dangote Cement Plc, has ramped up production at its newest plant, in Okpella, Edo, as its earnings per share rose by 16.8 per cent to N6.18 for the first quarter ended March 31, 2022.  

Chief Executive Officer, Dangote Cement, Mr Michel Puchercos, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.  

Puchercos said the move to increase production at the Okpella plant was part of the company’s efforts to increase cement supply in Nigeria and ensure timely supply of products in the South-South and Southeast geo-political regions.  

He added that analysis of the company’s first quarter results indicated that it sold a total volume of 7.2 metric tones (Mt) with Nigeria accounting for 4.8Mt and the rest of Africa; the balance of 2.4Mt.  

He said the company started the first quarter on a positive note in spite of uncertainties brought by a very volatile global environment.  

He stated that increases were recorded in revenue and profitability that drove strong cash generation across the Group.  

According to him, profit after tax rose to N105.9 billion, up 18 per cent compared to last year’s while Group earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose to  N211.0 billion, up by 18.6 per cent with an EBITDA margin of 51.1 per cent.  

“On the operational side, we are ramping up production at our Okpella plant and are progressing well to deploy grinding plants to Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire.  

“Demand remained strong across all markets, and we remain confident that Dangote Cement is positioned to meet customers’ expectations despite these temporary challenges,” he said.  

He added that the company, in continuing its efforts to deliver shareholder value had completed the second tranche of its buyback programme.  

Puchercos said following the completion of both tranches, Dangote Cement had bought back 0.98 per cent of its outstanding shares.  

According to him, the share buy-back programme reflects the company’s commitment to finding opportunities beyond dividend to return cash to its shareholders.  

“The volatile international context is strengthening our efforts to ramp up the usage of alternative fuels and execution of our export-to-import strategy.  

“Reducing our dependence on imported inputs and making our markets self-sufficient has never been more relevant from a regional perspective.  

“Our continuous focus on efficiency, meeting strong market demand and maintaining our costs leadership drives our ability to consistently deliver superior profitability and value to all shareholders,” he said.

Dangote vows to make cement household name in Nigeria

The Dangote Group, has vowed to make its Cement a household name and most preferred cement brand in Nigeria.

Mr Okey Nwankwu, Head, Media and Publicity, South East, Dangote Group, stated this in Enugu on Tuesday.

Nwankwo said that Dangote Cement was a dominant player in the cement sector with three cement plants in Nigeria.

He added that it was the only Cement Manufacturer that catered for all Cement Consumers with three unique brands, Falcon, Dangote 3X and the latest Bloc Master, aimed at adding real values to Artisans.

“We also have cement plants operating in Ethiopia, Zambia, Senegal, Cameroon, Tanzania, Ghana, Congo, Sierra Leone and South Africa with the plans to further expand to Niger,” he said.

He maintained that the company was working on strategies that would drive business and create value for its customers, as it has increased range of its products to provide more alternatives for the customers.

“We also engage the Artisans pan Nigeria with continuous training and retraining of Artisans with practical demonstrations on the right usage of cement and the best practice in their chosen careers at various functions.

“We engage them in the right selection of the basic raw materials with emphasis on the mixing ratios, right applications and usage of the right tools for sandcrete blocks productions, tiling and brick layering activities.

“We collaborated with other Building Industry professionals and Regulated Bodies such as SON, Coren, NIA and NIQS on the sustainability of high standard of cement all the times.

“In our quest to key into the diversification of the economy by the Government, we will continue to roll out massive agricultural projects across the country. We have started in rice and while plans are underway for dairy farming.

“Our push for backward integration in providing our own raw materials on a massive scale has led to the planned investment of 4.6 billion dollars over the next three years in sugar, rice and dairy production alone,” he said.

Dangote Cement commences Tranche II share buyback

Dangote Cement Plc (DCP) has announced the commencement of the second tranche of its shares buyback programme (Tranche II) approved by its shareholders on May 26, 2021.

This is contained in a notice signed by Mr Edward Imoedemhe, the Deputy Company Secretary, and posted on the website of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Ltd. on Wednesday, in Lagos.

According to the notice, the Tranche II share buyback programme was within the framework provided under Rule 398 (3) (xiv) of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) Rules and Regulations (as applicable).

The programme was also in accordance with Rule 13.18 of the Rulebook of the NGX.

It said that based on the May 26 shareholders’ approval, the number of shares to be repurchased under the share buyback programme would not exceed 10 per cent of DCP’s issued capital.

The programme was being effected in tranches, with Tranche II being executed by the appointed stockbrokers on the company’s behalf.

The details of the Tranche II share buyback programme included; current shares issued, 17,040,507,404 fully paid-up ordinary shares of 50k each;

In addition, the Tranche size would be up to 170,003,074 fully paid-up ordinary shares of 50k each, representing 1 per cent of the currently issued shares,, less treasury shares; commencement/completion date, Jan. 19 to 20, to be traded in the open market of the NGX.

It explained that through its appointed stockbrokers, the company would, at its discretion, purchase DCP’s shares in the open market over the duration of Tranche II.

This, according to the notice, was subjected to the prevailing market conditions and under the current daily trading rules of the NGX.

“DCP would, however, not be under any obligation whatsoever to purchase any or all of the DCP shares put on offer over the duration of Tranche II.

“The shares being repurchased by the company under the Share Buy-Back Programme will be held as treasury shares and may subsequently be cancelled.

“The execution of this Tranche II is not expected to have any material impact on the company’s financial position.

“Dangote Cement shareholders seeking to participate in Tranche II of the share buyback programme are hereby advised to contact their stockbrokers or any other independent professional adviser registered as a capital market operator by SEC for further guidance on the submission of trades on the NGX’s trading platform.

“DCP will provide weekly updates on the progress of Tranche II of the programme on its website over the duration of this tranche.

“The Company will continue to monitor the evolving business environment and market conditions in making decisions on further tranches of the Share Buy-Back Programme,” the notice said.

It also advised shareholders and investors to exercise caution when dealing in the securities of Dangote Cement until the completion of Tranche II of the share buy back Programme.

It further said that an announcement would be published upon completion of Tranche II of the programme.
