<\/p>\n

\nThe 2018 Aid Transparency Index Report (ATI), has ranked African
\nDevelopment Bank (AfDB) 4th among 45 development organisations that share
\ntransparent and open data on project impact, result and evaluation.<\/div>\n
\nA statement signed by AfDB Chief Communication Officer, Mr
\nChawki Chahedi on Wednesday in Abuja, said the 2018 ATI report had lifted the
\nbank by six positions since 2016.<\/div>\n
\nAccording to Chahedi, ATI has been the only independent
\norganisation measuring transparency in the world\u2019s major development and
\nhumanitarian agencies.<\/div>\n
\n\u201cThe improved ranking reflects the bank\u2019s operational
\ncapabilities, the efficacy of its systems and processes, including a strict
\nadherence quality reporting, disclosure of its programmes, projects, aid and
\nfinancial interventions.\u2019\u2019<\/div>\n
\nHe said that it was a laid down procedure that organisations
\nprovide information on the objectives of their operations.<\/div>\n
\n\u201cBut only four Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) like the
\nAsian Development Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank and
\nAfDB publish details of their pre-project impact appraisals, evaluations and
\nreview documents and results.\u2019\u2019<\/div>\n
\nThe statement also quoted AfDB President, Dr Akinwumi Adesina as
\nsaying \u201cproactive stakeholders relations and governance anchored on
\ntransparency are critical and at the heart of the impact-driven work that makes
\nthe AfDB Africa\u2019s leading DFIs\u2019\u2019.<\/div>\n
\n\u201cThe latest ranking on the global aid transparency index
\nreflects the bank\u2019s alignment to its strategic priorities and unwavering
\ncommitment to Africa\u2019s development and transparency agenda.\u201d<\/div>\n
\nThe Bank said a signatory to the International Aid Transparency
\nInitiative (IATI) since April 2011, the bank had recently launched a new
\nprojects portal, publishing data according to IATI\u2019s international standards on
\ntransparency.<\/div>\n
\nIt said the aim was to make information about its development
\nspending easier to access, use and understand.<\/div>\n
\nThe bank said open data supporters had endorsed the index,
\nadopted by the United Nations, African Union, European Union, the United States
\ngovernment and other international and regional bodies.<\/div>\n
\nChahedi, however, noted that the report identified some
\nchallenges to the open data momentum, which includes the shrinking \u201ccivic
\nspace\u2019\u2019 needed for citizens and Civil Society Oorganisations (CSOs) to engage
\nin decision making.<\/div>\n
\nThe chief communication officer said the report also listed
\nincreasingly scarce assistance from development partners, and the changing
\ndevelopment landscape, adding that they pose a fresh set of fiscal, regulatory,
\ntechnical and ethical challenges for global transparency efforts.<\/div>\n
