{"id":50880,"date":"2023-06-14T14:29:02","date_gmt":"2023-06-14T14:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=50880"},"modified":"2023-06-14T14:29:10","modified_gmt":"2023-06-14T14:29:10","slug":"nigeria-gets-data-protection-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/nigeria-gets-data-protection-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria gets data protection law"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Abuja, June 14, 2023: President Bola Tinubu has signed the Nigeria Data Protection Bill, 2023 into law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 provides a legal framework for the protection of personal information and the practice of data protection in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Vincent Olatunji, the National Commissioner, Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB), said this at the NDPD Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan(SRAP) validation workshop in Abuja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill was sent to the Senate and House of Representatives for consideration and passage on Tuesday, April 4 2023 via a letter from former President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNow an Act, the new law establishes the Nigeria Data Protection Commission and replaces the NDPB established by former&nbsp; President Buhari in February 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commission will be led by a National Commissioner with the responsibility of regulating the processing of personal information.<\/p>\n\n\n<!-- wp:themify-builder\/canvas \/-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Abuja, June 14, 2023: President Bola Tinubu has signed the Nigeria Data Protection Bill, 2023 into law.
