Lagos, May 20, 2023: The Lekki Deep Seaport on Friday surpassed stakeholders\u2019 expectations since the start of operations with the berthing of its largest vessel, a 300-meter Length Over All vessel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The vessel christened CMA-CGM RABELAIS, with an impressive capacity of 6570 TEUs, started its journey from China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The berthing of the record-making vessel, was contained in a statement issued on the official Twitter page of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement said the vessel christened CMA-CGM RABELAIS had an impressive capacity of 6570 TEUs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It said the vessel would be discharging and loading export cargoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe journey of the vessel originated from Shanghai, China and called at the Lekki Port,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to the development, the NPA Managing Director, Mr Mohammed Bello-Koko, said: \u201cit is a testament to Nigeria\u2019s drive in delivering cargo with ease and utmost efficiency.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe fact that this vessel was departing the country on the same day it berthed was a fulfilment of their promise to deliver speedy cargo dwell time,\u201d Bello-Koko said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that this was done through improved efficiencies, and state-of-the-art machinery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am delighted to assure you that we are committed to continuously improving on this milestone,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement quoted the Asst. Harbour Master for Lekki Port, Capt. Monday Gajere, as saying that the thorough navigation risk assessment involving pilots, tugs, and mooring gangs allowed for smooth berthing of the large cargo carrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gajere said that the berthing of the large cargo carrier was a demonstration of the Authority\u2019s readiness to handle such cargoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
