{"id":49598,"date":"2023-04-05T12:45:29","date_gmt":"2023-04-05T12:45:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=49598"},"modified":"2023-04-05T12:45:36","modified_gmt":"2023-04-05T12:45:36","slug":"buhari-hailed-for-stopping-lenders-harassment-of-nigerians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/buhari-hailed-for-stopping-lenders-harassment-of-nigerians\/","title":{"rendered":"Buhari hailed for stopping lenders\u2019 harassment of Nigerians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Muhammadu Buhari has stopped online lending apps from harassing Nigerians unnecessarily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The president also granted approval for 173 digital lending applications to operate in the country and to help sanitize the lending space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) in a statement signed by its Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke welcome the decision of the president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It is no longer news that a section of Nigerians have over the years been exploited and subjected to ridicule by illegal loan apps after signing on to these apps&#8217; services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8221;But this is about to end with the decision of the Federal Government, through the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), to put an end to the development by approving 173 loan apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The decision to moderate the digital lending space is a welcome one especially as access to credit is one service that is key to financial inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It is good to know that apps that are not approved by the Federal Government would be taken off Playstore by Google and be unavailable for downloads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We invite Nigerians to know that the move is in line with the demonstrable commitment of the Buhari administration to protect the average Nigerian from exploitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are hopeful that the regulators will ensure proper enforcement of the necessary laws to ensure that the approved lending apps accord Nigerians seeking their service, the respect they deserve&#8221;, the statement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BMO also urged the regulators to work closely with service providers to block unapproved apps from remaining in the digital space to con unsuspecting Nigerians.<\/p>\n\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-49598\" data-postid=\"49598\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-49598 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Muhammadu Buhari has stopped online lending apps from harassing Nigerians unnecessarily.
