{"id":49302,"date":"2023-03-24T15:54:50","date_gmt":"2023-03-24T15:54:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=49302"},"modified":"2023-03-24T15:55:01","modified_gmt":"2023-03-24T15:55:01","slug":"afdb-bci-promote-womens-access-to-finance-in-africa-with-485000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/afdb-bci-promote-womens-access-to-finance-in-africa-with-485000\/","title":{"rendered":"AfDB, BCI promote women\u2019s access to finance in Africa with $485,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Bank for Trade and Industry (BCI) of Mauritania have signed a 485,000 dollars agreement for Affirmative Finance Action for Women in African (AFAWA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bank in a statement said that the programme was aimed at promoting women\u2019s access to finance in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Promoting Access of Women-Owned Enterprises to Financial and Technical Support Services in the Western Sahel Region project is financed by AfDB with support from Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative (We-Fi).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe project aims to strengthen BCI\u2019s financing capacity for trade and industry and to better support women small and medium enterprises in Mauritania, Mali, Senegal and Guinea,\u2019\u2019 it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said that Mohamed El -Azizi, AfDB\u2019s Director-General for North Africa and Isselmou Tajidine, Managing Director of BCI\u2019s Trade and Industry Group, signed the agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said that the agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Mauritania Investment Forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The forum with the theme, \u201cInvest Days-Nouakchott\u2019\u2019, was organised by the Mauritania Investment Promotion Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AfDB\u2019s director-general for North Africa said: \u201cThe signing of this technical assistance agreement with the BCI Group is an important step in supporting&nbsp; financial inclusion and growth of women-led SMEs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis plays a crucial role in Mauritania\u2019s economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe agreement consolidates a 10 million euro line of credit, approved by AfDB\u2019s board of directors to BCI in 2021, to support growth and trade of strategic small businesses of women entrepreneurs.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BCI\u2019s managing director said that the project reinforced the bank\u2019s strategic partnership with AfDB and would position the bank as the choice for women entrepreneurs in Mauritania, Senegal, Mali and Guinea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tajidine added that it would help to expand the bank\u2019s offering of financial products and technical support for women-led businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AFAWA and the Mauritania Investment Promotion Agency organised a workshop on strengthening financial inclusion of women\u2019s SMEs in Mauritania during the Invest Days-Nouakchott Forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The session presented the mechanisms of the initiative, including the \u201cGuarantee for Growth\u201d programme implemented by the African Guarantee Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also provided an opportunity to discuss the regulatory framework and steps that authorities and businesses can take to improve financial access for women\u2019s businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The forum also featured inauguration of the AFAWA ambassadors programme which will advocate&nbsp; accelerated access to finance for Africa\u2019s women entrepreneurs and showcase women leaders.<\/p>\n\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-49302\" data-postid=\"49302\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-49302 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Bank for Trade and Industry (BCI) of Mauritania have signed a 485,000 dollars agreement for Affirmative Finance Action for Women in African (AFAWA).
