{"id":49295,"date":"2023-03-24T15:44:13","date_gmt":"2023-03-24T15:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=49295"},"modified":"2023-03-24T15:44:19","modified_gmt":"2023-03-24T15:44:19","slug":"cbn-debunks-viral-news-suspending-fintech-companies-accounts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/cbn-debunks-viral-news-suspending-fintech-companies-accounts\/","title":{"rendered":"CBN debunks viral news suspending fintech companies\u2019 accounts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has described as fake, the news making the rounds that it suspended accounts of Fintech companies like OPAY and PALMPAY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CBN\u2019s Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Mr Isa AbdulMumin, said in Abuja on Friday that the viral news \u201cis simply fake\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The viral news credited to AbdulMumin stated that the CBN was about to suspend accounts of the Fintech companies because they were being used to perpetrate fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPlease if you are using OPAY, PALMPAY or any of these CHINA APPs or their POS, stop keeping much money in the account or stop using it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe CBN is about suspending their accounts because these apps are being used to perpetrate fraud,\u2019\u2019 the viral news read in parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OPAY and PALMPAY had in separate social media messages denied being under the radar of the CBN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OPAY had stated that: \u201cthe post mentioning the CBN shutting down our operations is false and misleading to the general public.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PALMPAY also posted a similar disclaimer that: \u201cwe are aware of news currently being spread on social media about CBN shutting down the operations of PALMPAY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPlease ignore all such misleading news of this nature,\u2019\u2019 it stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OPAY and PALMPAY are licensed under the CBN mobile payment regulatory framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are to provide mobile money services including mobile payment services to both the banked and unbanked, and to drive financial inclusion.<\/p>\n\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-49295\" data-postid=\"49295\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-49295 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has described as fake, the news making the rounds that it suspended accounts of Fintech companies like OPAY and PALMPAY.
