{"id":48303,"date":"2023-02-04T03:26:36","date_gmt":"2023-02-04T03:26:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=48303"},"modified":"2023-02-04T03:26:42","modified_gmt":"2023-02-04T03:26:42","slug":"afan-advises-farmers-against-planting-after-early-rains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/afan-advises-farmers-against-planting-after-early-rains\/","title":{"rendered":"AFAN advises farmers against planting after early rains"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Chairman All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Enugu chapter, Mr Romanus Eze, has called on farmers not to rush into planting because of the perceived early rains this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eze said it would be unexpected of experienced farmers to be deceived by the current light showers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him, first rains of every year will not even wet the soil for planting crops, but will only reduce the atmospheric heat and dust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are no assurances in planting crops with the first rains. I will not call it rain, but a drought in form of rain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe rain is not for farming. So, farmers should not start farming with it because it is only showers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eze also said that early rains would not result in bountiful harvest, adding that planting with it in the past had been wasted efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the past, we had witnessed such deceptive early rains and at the end of the day, crops did not do well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEarly rains should not be relied on to penetrate the soil for planting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AFAN chairman enjoined farmers to rather prepare their farmlands for planting and other farming activities for March when much rain was expected.<\/p>\n\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-48303\" data-postid=\"48303\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-48303 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Chairman All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Enugu chapter, Mr Romanus Eze, has called on farmers not to rush into planting because of the perceived early rains this year.
