{"id":45121,"date":"2022-09-03T14:07:09","date_gmt":"2022-09-03T14:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=45121"},"modified":"2022-09-03T14:07:14","modified_gmt":"2022-09-03T14:07:14","slug":"eastern-rail-line-work-halted-due-to-insecurity-vandalism-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/eastern-rail-line-work-halted-due-to-insecurity-vandalism-minister\/","title":{"rendered":"Eastern rail line work halted due to insecurity, vandalism \u2013 Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Transportation, Mu\u2019azu Sambo has said work on Port Harcourt-Maidugiri Eastern rail line was suspended due to insecurity and vandalism of railway properties along the corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sambo made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He spoke while on inspection tour of the project in Port Harcourt, Rivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sambo said China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCEC), the contractor handling the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the project, had complained of attacks on its workers along the Abia State axis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am very displeased by these acts, and I condemned it in strong terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the history of Nigeria, no administration has invested more in rail infrastructure like the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI call on the media and the judiciary to collaborate with the Ministry to ensure that these economic saboteurs are not only exposed but prosecuted and sentenced speedily to serve as deterrent to others,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minister dismissed as fake, news being circulated that funds meant for the Eastern rail line was diverted to other projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe progress made so far is from the 15 per cent of the counterpart funding by Nigeria while the 85 per cent to be provided by foreign parterners is still negotiated,\u201d Sambo said.<\/p>\n\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-45121\" data-postid=\"45121\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-45121 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Transportation, Mu\u2019azu Sambo has said work on Port Harcourt-Maidugiri Eastern rail line was suspended due to insecurity and vandalism of railway properties along the corridor.
