{"id":44959,"date":"2022-08-29T19:18:56","date_gmt":"2022-08-29T19:18:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=44959"},"modified":"2022-08-29T19:19:01","modified_gmt":"2022-08-29T19:19:01","slug":"24-foreign-firms-interested-in-sri-lankan-petroleum-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/24-foreign-firms-interested-in-sri-lankan-petroleum-business\/","title":{"rendered":"24 foreign firms interested in Sri Lankan petroleum business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At least 24 foreign companies are interested in the petroleum business in Sri Lanka, according to a government official on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The companies are from United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, the United States, China, India, Russia, Britain, Malaysia, Norway, and the Philippines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kanchana Wijesekera, Sri Lankan Minister of Power and Energy said that his ministry \u201chas appointed a committee to evaluate the expressions of interest (EOIs) submitted by the foreign firms\u201d, which will finalise the process within six weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wijesekera said companies in petroleum-producing countries were invited to import, distribute and sell petroleum products in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minister added that 700 gas stations under the state-owned Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) could be given to selected companies for operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the selected companies could also use other CPC facilities on a commercial basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the CPC and the Lanka Indian Oil Corporation are permitted to distribute fuel to retail customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wijesekera said that the CPC, which holds 80 per cent of the retail petroleum market, was unable to keep on supplying fuel because of dollar shortages.<\/p>\n\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-44959\" data-postid=\"44959\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-44959 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At least 24 foreign companies are interested in the petroleum business in Sri Lanka, according to a government official on Monday.
