A telecommunication company, 9mobile, on Friday launched the first edition of its mentorship programme, \u2018The Hack\u2019, for young entrepreneurs and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Director, Marketing Communications, 9mobile, Saidat Lawal-Mohammed, said at the official launch of the initiative in Lagos that it was targeted at SMEs and entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lawal-Mohammed said that \u2018The Hack\u2019 was targeted at SMEs and entrepreneurs desirous of scaling their businesses and looking for support to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said that The Hack was one of the 9mobile interventions in developing the SMEs space by empowering entrepreneurs with knowledge and skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have partnered with TriciaBiz, a business consulting firm and other experts, to give value to small business owners by teaching them attractive ways of improving their businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt 9mobile, our believe is that SMEs have great way of adding to growth of our economy and the Gross Domestic Product, the more of SMEs we can improve in Nigeria, the bigger our economy becomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe expectation of 9mobile was that the participants, through this Hack would jumpstart their businesses with skills gained in the mentorship sessions, \u201cshe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that 9mobile would expand the mentorship programme to other states in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lawal-Mohammed said that the company would scale up \u2018the Hack\u2019 and leverage technology to ensure many people benefits from the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Also speaking, Mr Karn Gulati, Director of Strategy, 9mobile, said that technology remained a strategic enabler for startups in achieving desired goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSuccessful startups in the current ecosystem must understand available ttechnology in the market and ready to use available free project management tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey need to rely on data-driven decision-making (DDDM) through analytics and digital programming and not relying on their intuitions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In her presentation, Tricia Ikponmwonba, the Lead Strategist at TriciaBiz, a business consulting firm, taught participants on how to improve on their market penetration, market development, products development, sales channel optimisation and promotion among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that they could improve on their products by developing different quality levels of their products, adding new features to existing products and by looking across complementary product offerings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the mentorship programme featured breakout sessions where business groups and startups developed business growth strategies for different brands.<\/p>\n\n\n
