{"id":41895,"date":"2022-04-13T13:18:04","date_gmt":"2022-04-13T13:18:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=41895"},"modified":"2022-04-13T13:18:08","modified_gmt":"2022-04-13T13:18:08","slug":"nbet-moves-to-secure-additional-40mw-of-electricity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/nbet-moves-to-secure-additional-40mw-of-electricity\/","title":{"rendered":"NBET moves to secure additional 40MW of electricity &nbsp;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET) says&nbsp;&nbsp;it is in the process of&nbsp;&nbsp;finalising a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Mabon Hydro Power Plant for 40 MW of electricity. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Henrietta Ighommore, Head, Corporate Communications, NBET stated in Abuja on Tuesday that the 40MW would contribute immensely to strengthening and stabilising the National Grid. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMabon Hydro Power Plant is strategically located in Dadin Kowa area of Gombe State and is the only power plant located in the Northeast region,\u2019\u2019 she stated. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ighommore stated also that the additional power from Mabon would contribute to reducing the current Weighted Average Cost of Power within NBET\u2019s portfolio, as generation of hydro power is relatively cheap. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to her, power from Mabon is also a testament to Federal Government\u2019s drive to commercialise small hydro plants and bring them upstream to ramp up power generation. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe PPA is also in line with Nigeria\u2019s commitment to the UN COP 26 on accelerated action and support for Climate Change Framework. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Hydro Plant being a clean energy source propels Nigeria towards fulfilling its obligations. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s administration is committed to reducing carbon foot prints and supporting climate change initiatives. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is timely and coming at a time when the country is in need of every available power it can generate and wheel out to end users,\u2019\u2019 she stated. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ighommore added that NBET had held a consultative forum with industry stakeholders on how to facilitate the process of acquiring the power. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She stressed that the meeting was part of the series of actions that NBET was undertaking prior to closing out the PPA with Mabon Hydro Power Plant. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe meeting had in attendance representatives of Distribution Companies (DISCOs) and the sector regulator, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, as well as the Transmission Company of Nigeria. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe DISCOS made significant contributions at the meeting with a commitment to working collaboratively with other market participants towards improving and enhancing power supply to Nigerians,\u2019\u2019 Ighommore noted. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-41895\" data-postid=\"41895\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-41895 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET) says&nbsp;&nbsp;it is in the process of&nbsp;&nbsp;finalising a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Mabon Hydro Power Plant for 40 MW of electricity. &nbsp;
