{"id":41746,"date":"2022-04-06T16:17:20","date_gmt":"2022-04-06T16:17:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=41746"},"modified":"2022-04-06T16:17:25","modified_gmt":"2022-04-06T16:17:25","slug":"citan-seeks-use-of-technology-to-enhance-tax-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/citan-seeks-use-of-technology-to-enhance-tax-system\/","title":{"rendered":"CITAN seeks use of technology to enhance tax system &nbsp;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The President, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITAN),&nbsp;&nbsp;Mr Adesina Adebayo, has urged the Federal Government to update its tax laws, and embrace more&nbsp;&nbsp;technology to ensure an efficient tax system. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adebayo said the regulators should be ingenious and utilise more of science in capturing the data of companies&nbsp;&nbsp;expected to pay their taxes. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cMany companies are operating and making money without a known&nbsp;&nbsp;conventional office address,\u201d Adebayo said. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEnforcement of punitive measures for erring companies would have been one of the ways of bringing sanity to the country\u2019s tax systems. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHowever, the inadequacies and the bottlenecks inherent in our judicial systems is undermining the process. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are too many delays in the process of serving justice to individuals and firms, who violated our tax laws,\u201d he said. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that there should be a continuous and&nbsp;&nbsp;coordinated approach in educating the people on having an effective tax system in the country. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, another tax expert, who preferred anonymity, said&nbsp;&nbsp;the Federal Government&nbsp;&nbsp;should review its tax laws so as to have an efficient systems. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cGazetting the laws will strengthen tax laws&nbsp;&nbsp;and address all the inadequacies, being experienced currently,\u201d he said. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that there should be serious synergy among the tiers of government, so as to have an efficient tax administration in the country. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cThere&nbsp;&nbsp;should be collaboration among national and sub national units of government because they are closest to the people. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWorking together is imperative to achieve national goals and reduce acrimony among each&nbsp;&nbsp;other,\u201d he said. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-41746\" data-postid=\"41746\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-41746 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The President, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITAN),&nbsp;&nbsp;Mr Adesina Adebayo, has urged the Federal Government to update its tax laws, and embrace more&nbsp;&nbsp;technology to ensure an efficient tax system. &nbsp;
