{"id":41665,"date":"2022-04-02T16:09:29","date_gmt":"2022-04-02T16:09:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=41665"},"modified":"2022-04-02T16:09:33","modified_gmt":"2022-04-02T16:09:33","slug":"power-stakeholders-call-for-consumer-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/power-stakeholders-call-for-consumer-rights\/","title":{"rendered":"Power stakeholders call for consumer rights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stakeholders in the power sector have called for synergy of all players to address consumer rights and obligations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The stakeholders made the call in a communigue issued&nbsp; at the end of a one-day National Electricity Consumer Protection Awareness Forum held in Abuja on March 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The communigue was signed by the Director-General of National Power Training Institute (NAPTIN), Mr Ahmed Nagode, and Mr Princewill Okorie, the National President,&nbsp; Association of Public Policy Analysis (APPA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The theme of the forum is \u201cEffective Implementation of Consumer Protection Component of Electric Power Sector Reform Act, 2005\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the communique,&nbsp; the stakeholders agreed that there is need for synergy amongst the various stakeholders in the power sector to ensure consumer rights were protected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The communique said that consumers\u2019 protection right should be given more attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also said that training on right and obligations of consumers should be embarked upon and supported by stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLike Governors\u2019 Forum, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), NNPC, Oil Companies, Power Utilities and organised private sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd willing stakeholders who should endeavor to fund this important project as part of their Civic Social Responsibility (CSR),\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The communique said there was need for proper coordination of the process and in order to guarantee accountability and optimal use of resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said that NAPTIN can be supported to perform training functions for&nbsp; stakeholders, especially non-power sector personnel in consumer education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The communigue said that a major instrument for achieving consumer protection education awareness is through training and continuous interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is important to cascade this enlightenment forum to all the States in Nigeria;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe next engagement should hold at NERC\u2019s instance and or facilitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEfforts should be made to encourage the participation of licensed Electricity Companies (DisCos) in further engagement as service providers with direct interface with consumer and tariff collection,\u201d the communiqu\u00e9 read in part.<\/p>\n\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-41665\" data-postid=\"41665\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-41665 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stakeholders in the power sector have called for synergy of all players to address consumer rights and obligations.
