\nNigeria and a Chinese firm have signed a
\nMemorandum of Understanding (MoU) on first-ever cotton value chain
\nindustry, worth two billion US dollars.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u> <\/u><\/div>\n
\nThe Minister of Industry, Trade and
\nInvestment, Mr Okechukwu Enelamah, unveiled the deal in Abuja where he
\nsaid the agreement was signed with Shandong Ruyi International Fashion
\nIndustry.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u> <\/u><\/div>\n
\nThe minister explained that the agreement
\n would involve cotton growing to ginning, spinning, textile manufacture
\nand garment in Katsina, Kano, Abia and Lagos States.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u> <\/u><\/div>\n
\n\u201cTheir investments will comprise
\naggregation and off take of cotton from farmers for ginning, spinning
\nand weaving and manufacturing at least 300 million metres of African
\nprint, which will meet 20 per cent of West Africa\u2019s demand.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u> <\/u><\/div>\n
\n\u201cOthers are producing cotton and denim
\ngarments for export and local consumption by Ruyi Group in Abia, Lagos
\nand Kano states,\u201d Enelamah said.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u> <\/u><\/div>\n
\nHe added that in China, President Xi
\nJinping promised to open China\u2019s market for agricultural products from
\nNigeria, based on trade negotiating engagements by Nigeria\u2019s Trade
\nNegotiators.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u> <\/u><\/div>\n
\nEnelamah said for industrialisation, the
\ngovernment was aggressively implementing the Nigeria Industrial
\nRevolution Plan (NIRP) by establishing the Nigeria Industrial Policy and
\n Competitiveness Advisory Council.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u> <\/u><\/div>\n
\nHe said the focus would be on five high
\npriority areas: policy and regulation, trade and markets, critical
\ninfrastructure , skills , capacity building and lastly financing.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u> <\/u><\/div>\n
\nEnelamah said that the government had
\nbegun the establishment and upgrading of some existing industrial parks
\nto world-class special economic zones (SEZs), across the six
\ngeo-political zones in the country.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n

\nAccording to him, for the Agreement
\nEstablishing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), there is a
\n serious ongoing technical work to strengthen Nigeria\u2019s Trade Policy
\nInfrastructur
