{"id":40660,"date":"2022-02-19T03:15:16","date_gmt":"2022-02-19T03:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=40660"},"modified":"2022-02-19T03:15:21","modified_gmt":"2022-02-19T03:15:21","slug":"nigeria-working-on-reforms-to-ensure-stable-power-supply","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/nigeria-working-on-reforms-to-ensure-stable-power-supply\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria working on reforms to ensure stable power supply"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET),&nbsp; Mr Nnaemeka Ewelukwa, on Friday said that the Federal Government is putting reforms in place to ensure stable power supply in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ewelukwa made this known at a Capacity-Building Workshop for members of the Power Correspondents Association of Nigeria (PCAN) and Civil Society Organisations in Lagos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop, with the theme \u201cBuilding knowledge and Plugging Skills Gap in Power Sector Reporting\u201d, indicates a worrisome mismatch that government wants to plug.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that the critical reforms that the government has embarked upon are designed to sustain the financial status of the market, ensure technical capacity to remove the deficit in supply to meet the demand of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him, the Federal Government has begun the implementation of the transmission expansion plan which works in sync with the government\/Siemens Presidential Power Initiative \u2013 with phase one \u2013 (7,000mw), phase two \u2013 (11,000mw) and phase three (25,000mw) supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ewelukwa said \u201cthis government is keen to implement these reforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be honest with you, we are having sleepless nights to achieve these.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that government plans to keep expanding generation, transmission and distribution capacity to meet the country\u2019s demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him, the distribution companies are also improving their performances and facilities to ensure improved power supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Explaining NBET\u2019s function in the Transition Electricity Based Market, he said the design is to temporary bridge in the electricity market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that NBET has a long-term role to drive market competition by ensuring that it is moved from a government-centered market to a private-sector driven electricity market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are enthusiastically looking at the point when we will actually start the innovation process of handing over the Power Purchase Agreements we signed to distribution licensees and eligible customers as the case may be,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-40660\" data-postid=\"40660\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-40660 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET),&nbsp; Mr Nnaemeka Ewelukwa, on Friday said that the Federal Government is putting reforms in place to ensure stable power supply in the country.
