{"id":40173,"date":"2022-02-02T09:18:11","date_gmt":"2022-02-02T09:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=40173"},"modified":"2022-02-02T09:18:12","modified_gmt":"2022-02-02T09:18:12","slug":"cbn-tasks-rice-millers-on-forex-employment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/cbn-tasks-rice-millers-on-forex-employment\/","title":{"rendered":"CBN tasks rice millers on forex, employment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)&nbsp;&nbsp;has urged rice mills in the country to embrace CBN\u2019s backward integration initiatives aimed at conserving foreign exchange reserves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Information obtained from CBN\u2019s website indicates that Emefiele made the call on Tuesday, during the inauguration of Garewa Rice Mills in Kano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that such initiatives would also revamp local production capacity and create employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He stressed the need for rice mills in Nigeria to get involved in paddy production to guarantee sustainable supply of rice paddy to their mills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that such a move would also complement supply from the smallholder farmers through the apex bank\u2019s partnership with the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) and prime anchors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that the number of rice mills in Nigeria had grown from less than 10 with a combined capacity of less than 350,000 metric tons in 2015 to over 68 with a combined capacity of three million metric tons as at January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that the introduction of the Anchor Borrowers \u2018 Programme&nbsp;&nbsp;(ABP) in 2015, had enabled immense growth in the sector,&nbsp;&nbsp;adding that about 10 more mills would be inaugurated within the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFood security remains a cardinal deliverable for every developing economy as it serves as the fulcrum of many other economic development indices,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CBN governor assured rice millers of collaboration in boosting the rice value chain in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that the revamped Nigeria Commodity Exchange would facilitate grading, sorting, quality assurance and storage infrastructure for key agricultural commodities.<\/p>\n\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-40173\" data-postid=\"40173\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-40173 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mr Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)&nbsp;&nbsp;has urged rice mills in the country to embrace CBN\u2019s backward integration initiatives aimed at conserving foreign exchange reserves.
