The Federal Government has paid the backlog of Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) to benefiting households under the Household Uplifting Programme (HUP) in Sokoto and Lagos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head of Sokoto State Cash Transfer Unit, Mr Abubakar Balarabe-Binanchi, said on Thursday in Sokoto that HUP was introduced by the government in 2016 to fortify the social safety net and to uplift the living standards of the poor and vulnerable persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stated that the payment of the N5,000 stipends to each of the beneficiaries covered from Oct. 2020 to June 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The official noted that the gesture had improved household consumption and enhanced the economy of the affected communities, among other benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Balarabe-Binanchi stated that initially, a total of 3,165 people from Tureta, Tambuwal, Binji, Raba and Isa Local Government Areas benefited from the scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The official stated, however, that the programme had been enlarged to cover all the 23 local government areas of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, the Training and Communication Officer of the Cash Transfer Unit, Sokoto State, Malam Zayyanu Marafa-Shuni, attributed the delay in payments to the strengthening of the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, the scheme migrated from the physical cash payment to digital payment system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA pilot of digital payment has commenced in Sokoto-South, Sokoto-North, Isa and Tambuwal Local Government Areas, and they all embraced digitalised payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe first and second phases of payment tranches have been completed and now, the third phase will commence soon,\u201d Marafa-Shuni said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The official commended Gov. Aminu Tambuwal for providing befitting office accommodation to the scheme, as well as other logistic supports that ensured the success of the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He commended the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajia Sadiyya Faruk and the National Programme Coordinator, Hajia Halima Shehu, for their commitment towards achieving the desired successes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Lagos, the payment of its Household Uplifting Programme-Conditional Cash Transfer (HUP-CCT) stipends to 10,985 beneficiaries has started also.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is contained in a statement by the Head of Unit, Lagos State Cash Transfer, Mrs LOla Orimoogunje, on Thursday in Lagos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Orimoogunje said that disbursement of the stipends for May and June was done between Oct. 5 and Oct. 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said that the Federal Government had in 2016, established the programme with the aim of reducing poverty, improve household consumption and ensure that the beneficiaries established a better means of livelihood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Orimoogunje said that the beneficiaries from 12 local government areas of Lagos were currently benefiting from the bi-monthly stipend of N10,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have 233 beneficiaries from Agege, 491 from Ajeromi Ifelodun, 908 from Alimosho, 365 from Amuwo-Odofin, 2,308 from Apapa, 1,273 from Badagry and 989 from Epe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAlso, we have 1504 from Ibeju-Lekki, 170 from Ifako-Ijaye, 2196 from Ikorodu, 371 from Lagos-Island, 177 from Shomolu, making the total number of the beneficiaries 10,985,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n
