{"id":37781,"date":"2021-11-04T00:58:54","date_gmt":"2021-11-04T00:58:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=37781"},"modified":"2021-11-04T00:58:56","modified_gmt":"2021-11-04T00:58:56","slug":"afdb-pledges-to-support-recharge-of-lake-chad-basin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/afdb-pledges-to-support-recharge-of-lake-chad-basin\/","title":{"rendered":"AfDB pledges to support recharge of Lake Chad Basin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Akinwumi Adesina, the President, African Development Bank (AfDB), has pledged the Bank\u2019s support for the recharging of water to the Lake Chad Basin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adesina made the pledge during his discussion with President Muhammadu Buhari on the sideline of the ongoing COP26 conference in Glasgow, Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a tweet, Adesina said: \u201cI had a great discussion with President Muhammadu Buhari at the COP26 in Glasgow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI asked for his leadership to help on the recharging of water to the Lake Chad Basin. We will rally behind you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe cost of inaction is greater than the cost of action. Thank you Mr. President,\u201d Adesina said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The shrinkage of Lake Chad has been one of the main factors responsible for insurgency and socio-economic unrests in the Lake Chad Basin Commission member countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The countries include Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Nigeria, Algeria, the Central African Republic, Libya, and Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Major sources of livelihood including farming and fishing of about 40 million people living along the Chad Basin are said to be affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Stakeholders within the member countries have identified inter-basin water transfer as the realistic solution confronting the receding Lake.<\/p>\n\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-37781\" data-postid=\"37781\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-37781 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Akinwumi Adesina, the President, African Development Bank (AfDB), has pledged the Bank\u2019s support for the recharging of water to the Lake Chad Basin.
