{"id":32848,"date":"2021-08-24T18:40:43","date_gmt":"2021-08-24T17:40:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=32848"},"modified":"2021-10-07T00:43:39","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T00:43:39","slug":"what-happened-to-national-power-grid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/what-happened-to-national-power-grid\/","title":{"rendered":"What happened to national power grid?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it has restored the national power grid after it experienced partial system disturbance at about 1:06p.m. on Monday.<br \/>\nTCN\u2019s General Manager Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.<br \/>\nMbah said that the incident followed a sudden drop in system frequency from 50.18Hz to 47.63Hz which caused system instability and consequently the collapse of a part of the national grid.<br \/>\nShe said: \u201cHowever, the partial system disturbance did not affect parts of the grid such as Afam Complex, Alaoji, Ikot Ekpene, Odukpani, and Calabar axis.<br \/>\n\u201cThis means that electricity supply to these areas was not interrupted by the incident.<br \/>\n\u201cAccording to reports from the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) readings and some substations, control panel readings by System Operators showed that some units from a particular generating station tripped suddenly.\u201d<br \/>\nThe general manager said that the tripping caused an initial loss of 402 megawatts (MW) of electricity from the grid network.<br \/>\n\u201cThis caused a destabilising imbalance which further caused the pulling out a total of 3,560MW from the grid that finally collapsed part of the national grid,\u2018\u2019 she stated.<br \/>\nMbah said that TCN commenced the immediate recovery of the grid at 1:19p.m. through Shiroro Generating Station and almost immediately restored electricity to Abuja axis.<br \/>\nShe said that the Alaoji\u2013Onitsha axis was restored at about the same time as Abuja, while the Shiroro-Mando axis, on the other hand, was restored by 3:42p.m.<br \/>\nAccording to her, by 6.57p.m. on Monday, the national grid was fully recovered and operational.<br \/>\n\u201cTCN appreciates the kind understanding of government and electricity consumers within the affected areas as it is consistently executing projects geared towards putting in place a very robust grid.<br \/>\n\u201cIt is equally pursuing a nationwide SCADA implementation that would further contribute to grid stability,\u2018\u2019 she added.<\/p>\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-32848\" data-postid=\"32848\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-32848 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it has restored the national power grid after it experienced partial system disturbance at about 1:06p.m. on Monday.
