{"id":32267,"date":"2021-07-27T09:48:03","date_gmt":"2021-07-27T08:48:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=32267"},"modified":"2021-10-07T00:43:26","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T00:43:26","slug":"nigeria-cameroon-borders-bridge-will-facilitate-free-trade-fashola","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/nigeria-cameroon-borders-bridge-will-facilitate-free-trade-fashola\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria, Cameroon border\u2019s bridge will facilitate free trade \u2013 Fashola"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola has said the construction of a new double lane bridge over the Nigeria and Cameroon border will facilitate free trade.<br \/>\nFashola said this at the inspection of the 1.5km newly constructed two lane bridge at the Nigerian and Cameroon border, Ekot-Mfum, Etung Local Government Area of Cross River on Monday.<br \/>\nThe reports that construction of the bridge commenced on April 28, 2017 and was completed on March 2021 at the cost of  $35.9 billion jointly paid by both countries.<br \/>\nAccording to the minister, the bridge will also enhance friendly relations and improve security.<br \/>\n\u201dThis is the first shoot of the harvest of completed projects proposed as the administration enters the second phase of the second term on its way out,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nFashola said that the administration\u2019s plan to renew and expand old infrastructure would take the two countries to the future for many more decades and strengthen the relationship between them.<br \/>\n\u201cWe have had a strong relationship with the Republic of Cameroon in terms of trade and business.<br \/>\n\u201cIf you go to Aba, Enugu and Abakaliki for example, I can tell you  that they are the route that facilitate trade, agro produce, merchandise and manufactured goods from Aba in Abia state.<br \/>\n\u201cYou can only expect that this will improve  joint boarder patrol, more security,  more efficiency which you see from the first buildings formed out integration of ECOWAS and sister nations of the continent should look like.<br \/>\n\u201cNigeria is now a signatory to the Africa Continental Free Trade  Agreement, so this is infrastructure that positions both nations to take the benefit of trade that agreement holds.<br \/>\n\u201cIt is really exciting looking into the future you can only see more business, more trade and employment meant for people,\u201d Fashola said.<br \/>\nOn revenue generation, the minister said that the bridge was a social asset and the happiness and prosperity of Nigerians was enough payment.<br \/>\n\u201cThese are social assets and we must understand that, the recurment is the happiness and the prosperity of the people of Nigeria.<br \/>\n\u201cThe prosperity of the people is the reason why President Muhammadu Buhari is pushing this infrastructure renewal.<br \/>\n\u201d For as long as our people are happy, they can travel easily, they can reduce their journey, safe time on the road because if you save time you save money and am sure the President is delighted,\u201d  he added.<br \/>\nMr Henry Etuk, Chairman, Etung Local Government Area said the people are pleased with what the Federal Government had done.<br \/>\nEtuk reiterated that the new bridge would bring about better trade among the people of Nigeria and Cameroon.<br \/>\nHe said that the ease of movement and trade would go a long way to improve relationship and foster development in the area.<br \/>\nAlso a community leader, Mr Victor Njor, commended the government for the construction, saying that it would bring better security because of the joint border patrol.<\/p>\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-32267\" data-postid=\"32267\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-32267 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola has said the construction of a new double lane bridge over the Nigeria and Cameroon border will facilitate free trade.
