{"id":31900,"date":"2021-07-06T18:58:39","date_gmt":"2021-07-06T17:58:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=31900"},"modified":"2021-10-07T00:43:18","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T00:43:18","slug":"man-unido-partner-for-resource-efficiency-and-cleaner-production","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/man-unido-partner-for-resource-efficiency-and-cleaner-production\/","title":{"rendered":"MAN, UNIDO partner for resource efficiency and cleaner production"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) have formed a partnership to drive the implementation of Industrial Energy Efficiency(IEE) and Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP).<br \/>\nThe partnership was brokered at a workshop themed: \u201cImproving Nigeria\u2019s Industrial Energy Performance and Resource Efficient Cleaner Production through Programmatic Approaches and the Promotion of Innovation in Clean Technology Solutions (NGN IEE-RECP Project)\u201d.<br \/>\nMr Oluyomi Banjo, UNIDO Regional Director, said the move was aimed at addressing issues of energy consumption, environmental degradation and resource depletion in emerging economies while improving environmental action plan.<br \/>\nBanjo said it was also to facilitate responsible production in the manufacturing sector to achieve the key indicators of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 12) which seeks to increase capacity of sustainable consumption and production patterns.<br \/>\nHe said the implementation of the project would significantly lower the cost of production and increase Nigerian capacity for cleaner production while ensuring the need for beneficial energy optimization to address pollution issues in the manufacturing sector.<br \/>\n\u201cEnergy consumption takes huge chunk on the profitability of the company.<br \/>\n\u201cThis project would help industries adopt better methods to utilize energy resources for environmental performance protection on human health and the ecosystem.<br \/>\n\u201cIt would also provide biodiversity for companies to control waste and improve resource efficiency in the entire lifecycle of production,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nSimilarly, Mr Segun Ajayi-Kadir, Director-General, MAN, noted the need to leverage on the opportunities available to improve efficiency and also reduce the cost of electricity consumption, particularly, the cost of electricity concern.<br \/>\nAjayi-Kadir, represented by Mr Oluwasegun Osidipe, Director, Research and Advocacy Services, explained that the uniqueness of the project does not lie on energy efficiency alone.<br \/>\nHe urged MAN members and the Organised Private Sector operators, LCCI, NASSI to take advantage of the implementation of the global environment facility project to maximally achieve their said objectives.<br \/>\nAlso, Mr Tunji Bello, Lagos Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, said industrial emission have been found to be the second source of air pollution in Lagos.<br \/>\nBello, represented by Mr Michael Bankole, Environmental Manager at the ministry, said the pollution was particularly in concentration of industries in the commercial zones of Apapa, Ikeja, Idumota and Odogunyan areas.<br \/>\nA development, he said had led to increase in air pollution and poor quality of air in the state.<br \/>\nHe noted that the highest emitting sectors were stationary energy emission from energy use in manufacturing, industry and residential buildings which accounts for 55 per cent of the total emissions in Lagos.<br \/>\n\u201cAs we scale up industrialization to meet the demands for goods and services in the state, environmental sustainability should not be neglected as technology will improve energy efficiency in the long run to reduce GHG Emission\u201d.<br \/>\n\u201cThis will set the state on a pathway of emission neutrality to promote Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) and Resource Efficiency and cleaner production to promote inclusion,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-31900\" data-postid=\"31900\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-31900 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) have formed a partnership to drive the implementation of Industrial Energy Efficiency(IEE) and Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP).
