\nJust as Nigerians are yet to come to
\nterms on how Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi in August 2016
\nwent to Singapore and sealed a baseless agreement with Pacific
\nInternational Lines (PIL), an Asian Shipping giant incorporated
\n in Singapore in 1967, on the floating new national shipping line in
\nJuly, the Minister of State for Aviation, Capt Hadi Sirika went to
\nLondon Air Show after paying N183m ($600,000) to a Bahraini designers
\nfor the logo only, and launched Nigeria Air.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nToday, both enterprises have died even
\nbefore arriving the shores of Nigeria and millions of tax payers\u2019 money
\nup in flames from a government that is driving the economy on the basis
\nof Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nWhereas there is no evidence of recourse
\nto Executive Order 5 which stipulates strong and mandatory local content
\n in government procurements in the design of the Nigeria Air logo, it
\nwould be recalled that in 2016, Amaechi went
\n with a large entourage including the Director General of NIMASA, Dakuku
\n Peterside, to Singapore to sign a National Shipping Line deal of 60%
\nfunding with PIL, a shipping giant of Singapore with an understanding
\nthat indigenous shippers will foot the remaining
\n 40%.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIn a terse tweet last Wednesday, Sirika
\njust informed Nigerians that Nigeria Air has been suspended indefinitely
\n by the federal government and that was all.<\/div>\n
\n
\n<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\nBesides, in the Singaporean failed
\npartnership agreement, it was discovered that before signing the deal
\nwith PIL, there was no clear understanding between the Ministry and
\nconsortium of local shippers in raising the remaining
\n 40 per cent for the emergence of new National Shipping Line.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nRather, after observing that the deal is
\ndead even before arrival, Amaechi turned around to blame it on Nigerian
\nShip owners who were not able to provide the 40% counterpart funding.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nUp till now, there have been no questions
\n on how much was spent before the agreement with PIL was signed and at
\nwhat level of understanding did Amaechi secure the conviction that
\nNigerian shippers will agree to foot the bill of
\n 40 per cent\u201d.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nForm both case scenarios, one thing was
\ncommon; both started abroad and ended abroad but Nigeria\u2019s hard earned
\nmoney and the prevailing ERGP plus Executive Order 5 all raped.<\/div>\n
\n
\n<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\nMany Nigerians are of the view that for
\nthe fact the scheme did not receive ab-inito, the approval of the
\nEconomic Management Team (EMT), all the tax payers fund sunk in it be
\nthe Minister of State for Aviation must be recovered.<\/div>\n

\n<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\nOthers are already calling for the sack
\nof the minister and all top government officials who are part of the
\nnational scam that may have drained billions of naira ranging from
\ntransaction advisers, souvenirs development, estacodes
\n to London Air Show by a ministerial delegation numbering over 20 and
\nthe embarrassment caused on the collective intelligence of Nigerians to
\ninternational investors.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nBusiness Hilights gathered from a
\nreliable source that the EMT, chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo
\nclearly recommended ab-initio that government should not set up a
\nnational carrier with public funds, but this was tactically
\n overlooked.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nA source also added that another major
\nfactor that compelled government to jettison the scheme was based on the
\n fact it was not covered in any national budget both 2017 and the latest
\n 2018 or even the emerging 2019 appropriation
\n bills.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIt would be recalled that the Sirika has
\nat the July 18th Farnborough Air Show in England, unveiled the name and
\nlogo of the national carrier with fanfare even though there is nothing
\non ground to show seriousness in the first
\n place.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nSome experts that barred their minds
\ncalled for the sack of the Director General, Infrastructure Concession
\nRegulatory Commission (ICRC), Engr Chidi Izuwah for joining in bleeding
\nthe economy in the wastage by issuing the Outline
\n Business Case Certificate of Compliance for the establishment of the
\nNigeria Air when he would have done a study to understand that it would
\nnot fly at last.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAnother pointer to the eventual collapse
\nof the scheme was when the minister was running the build up without any
\n private sector even though he kept on telling Nigerians that it will be
\n private sector driven after naming it and
\n fleeting it with unknown fund.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAt the beginning of \u2018the game\u2019 by Sirika,
\n many aviation professionals picked holes on the apparent veiled way and
\n manner the federal government through the Minister of State for
\nAviation, Capt. Sirika was going about the emergence
\n of new national carrier.<\/div>\n

\n<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\nHowever, whereas Nigerians call for probe
\n of activities in Transportation Ministry, strong indication emerged
\nlast week that the Minister had already been celebrated and handed over
\npowers to run the presidential campaign of the
\n ruling party ahead of 2019 elections. Case closed.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
