{"id":30724,"date":"2021-05-27T06:20:25","date_gmt":"2021-05-27T05:20:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=30724"},"modified":"2021-10-07T00:42:57","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T00:42:57","slug":"energy-fund-extends-1m-grant-to-african-countries-for-transition-to-green-grids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/energy-fund-extends-1m-grant-to-african-countries-for-transition-to-green-grids\/","title":{"rendered":"Energy Fund extends $1m grant to African countries for transition to green grids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Anthony Areh<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) has extended a one-million-dollar grant to African countries for transition to flexible green grids and other clean power solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The African Development Bank (AfDB) said the fund is ahead of the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Glasgow, United Kingdom from Nov. 1 to Nov. 12.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>SEFA, managed by the AfDB, provides catalytic finance for renewable energy aimed at contributing to universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy services in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The technical assistance grant, sourced through a SEFA Rapid Response Facility (SEFA RRF) would enable up to five African countries participating in a COP26 Energy Transition Council to assess potential gaps in policy, regulatory and institutional frameworks.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The facility would also develop approaches to increase the contribution of grid-connected renewable energy generation, and identify financing mechanisms.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mr Kevin Kariuki, Vice President for Power, Energy, Climate and Green Growth, AfDB said: \u201cThe SEFA RRF will buttress the groundwork for accelerating the deployment of renewable energy in selected African countries, thereby complementing the Bank\u2019s efforts towards a just energy transition for the continent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Also, Mr Daniel Schroth, Acting Director, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Department, AfDB added that \u201cthe SEFA RRF also serves to prepare the ground for subsequent investments in renewable energy projects by the Bank and SEFA, under its Green Baseload component.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>According to the statement, SEFA Rapid Response Facility is designed to be flexible and responsive to the energy-transition requirements of participating governments.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The United Kingdom established the COP26 Energy Transition Council in September 2020 to drive the shift to clean energy ahead of COP26.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Members include multilateral development banks, international financial institutions, technical cooperation organizations and donor governments.<\/p>\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-30724\" data-postid=\"30724\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-30724 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Anthony Areh The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) has extended a one-million-dollar grant to African countries for transition to flexible green grids and other clean power solutions.
