\nPirates kidnapped 12 crew members from a
\nSwiss bulk carrier in Nigerian waters which was carrying wheat between
\nLagos and Port Harcourt .<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u> <\/u><\/div>\n
\nIt was attacked around 45 nautical miles south west of Bonny Island in oil rich Niger Delta .<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u> <\/u><\/div>\n
\nThe pirates apparently used long ladders
\nand cut the razor wire on deck to gain access to the vessel and
\ndestroyed the ship\u2019s communications equipment before leaving.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u> <\/u><\/div>\n
\nMassoel Shipping issued a statement
\nsaying it was working with authorities and specialists to ensure a rapid
\n release of those detained.
\n<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u> <\/u><\/div>\n
\nAccording to the Nigerian Maritime
\nAdministration and Safety Agency, seven of the kidnapped men are from
\nthe Philippines and one from each of Slovenia, Ukraine, Romania, Croatia
\n and Bosnia.
\n<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u> <\/u><\/div>\n
\nThe second quarterly report from the ICC
\nInternational Maritime Bureau, released in July, states that six
\nseparate incidents of crew kidnapping had occurred so far in 2018,
\ninvolving 25 crew members, all in the Gulf of Guinea.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
\n<\/u> <\/u><\/div>\n
\n The Bureau highlights the
\narea as high-risk and states that the true number of incidents in the
\nGulf of Guinea may be significantly higher than reported.<\/u><\/u><\/div>\n
