{"id":30699,"date":"2021-05-26T23:44:30","date_gmt":"2021-05-26T22:44:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=30699"},"modified":"2021-10-07T00:42:57","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T00:42:57","slug":"first-crude-production-from-marginal-fields-expected-in-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/first-crude-production-from-marginal-fields-expected-in-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"First crude production from marginal fields expected in 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) says it is expecting the first production of crude from some of the recently awarded 57 marginal oilfields in January 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mr Sarki Auwalu, Director, DPR, said this during a strategic engagement session with the Nigeria Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI) on Wednesday in Lagos.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The marginal fields are smaller oil blocks typically developed by indigenous companies.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Auwalu said the 2020 marginal oilfield bid round was almost at completion stage with successful companies paying their signature bonuses.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>He said the award of the marginal oilfield would increase Nigeria\u2019s oil and gas production capacity and reserves to boost the country\u2019s resources for national development.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Auwalu said the bid round, which began on June 1, 2020 was aimed at deepening the participation of indigenous companies in the upstream segment of the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>According to the him, it will also provide opportunities for technical and financial partnerships for investors.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The director said some of the indigenous companies that emerged from previous marginal oilfield bid rounds were today competing with international oil companies, which was very good for the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Auwalu further said the DPR generated about N452 billion for the Federal Government from January to March.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>He added that the regulatory agency was targeting an additional N900 billion for the months of April to June.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>According to him, the DPR operates a cashless revenue system which enables all revenue remittances to be paid directly to the federation account in total compliance with the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy of government.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Auwalu noted that transparency and accountability were critical to sustaining the industry and assured NEITI of the DPR\u2019s support towards its mandate.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Earlier, Dr Ogbonnaya Orji, Executive Secretary, NEITI, requested for closer collaboration and technical support from the DPR to improve transparency in the oil and gas industry.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Orji said NEITI was committed to ending Nigeria\u2019s \u201cresource cause\u201d which had led to poverty, insecurity, poor economy and hopelessness following years of mismanagement.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>He said, \u201cIt didn\u2019t start today but it will be better if we show concern on how we utilise our resources.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cA lot has changed through the activities of NEITI and its reports but a lot still need to be done because transparency in our extractive industry is very critical,\u201d Orji said.<\/p>\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-30699\" data-postid=\"30699\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-30699 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) says it is expecting the first production of crude from some of the recently awarded 57 marginal oilfields in January 2022.
