{"id":30120,"date":"2021-04-30T21:18:51","date_gmt":"2021-04-30T20:18:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=30120"},"modified":"2021-10-07T00:24:50","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T00:24:50","slug":"nigeria-commends-nexim-for-reducing-non-performing-loans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/nigeria-commends-nexim-for-reducing-non-performing-loans\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria commends NEXIM for reducing non-performing loans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government has commended the management of Nigerian Export Import Bank (NEXIM) for returning the bank to profitability and reduction in non-performing loans.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mrs Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, gave the commendation, in a statement by Mr Tijjani Mohammad, Principal Information Officer of the ministry, on Friday in Abuja.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Ahmed also inaugurated two newly appointed non-Executive Directors into the board of the bank.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The minister noted that NEXIM\u2019s return to profitability and reduction in its non-performing loans had impacted positively on the bank\u2019s statutory mandate.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>She expressed delight at the bank\u2019s intra\u2013African trade initiatives in readiness for the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).<\/p>\n\n\n<p>She noted that the overriding objective of the government in setting up the bank was the desire to make it a significant player in the Nigerian non-oil export sector and other economic revitalisation programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>She further noted that progress on the performance of the bank was commendable.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Ahmed said that the appointees were joining the board with diverse private sector backgrounds and assured the board of the ministry\u2019s support.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Responding, the Managing Director of the Bank, Mr Abba Bello, said he was delighted that the new appointees were coming to the board with vast and relevant experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Bello noted that the appointees would add value to the bank, with the continued support of the ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The two board members inaugurated were; Mr Kabiru Hassan and Mr Ede Dafinone.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Hassan has been in the business of commodity sourcing, trading and distribution since 2012, after a stint with Union Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Dafinone has been in the private sector and currently, Chairman of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria Export Promotion Group and also member, National Council of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-30120\" data-postid=\"30120\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-30120 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government has commended the management of Nigerian Export Import Bank (NEXIM) for returning the bank to profitability and reduction in non-performing loans.
