{"id":29861,"date":"2021-04-21T09:19:50","date_gmt":"2021-04-21T08:19:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=29861"},"modified":"2021-04-21T09:19:50","modified_gmt":"2021-04-21T08:19:50","slug":"reject-old-smaller-denomination-u-s-dollars-at-your-risk-cbn-warns-dmbs-bdcs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/reject-old-smaller-denomination-u-s-dollars-at-your-risk-cbn-warns-dmbs-bdcs\/","title":{"rendered":"Reject old, smaller denomination U.S dollars at your risk, CBN warns DMBs, BDCs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Tabko Mohammed<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ordered Deposit Money Banks (DNBs) and Bureau De Change (BDC) operators to, henceforth, accept old and lower denomination U.S dollars as legal tender.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The apex bank gave the order in a circular signed by its Director of Currency Operations Department, Mr Ahmed Umar.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Umar said that the CBN had been inundated with complains of the rejection of old or lower denomination U.S dollar deposits in the banks.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>He said that the CBN would sanction any of the concerned stakeholders, who refused to accept such denominations of the currency from their customers.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe CBN had, in recent times, been inundated with complains from members of the public on the rejection of old\/lower denominations of the US dollar bills by DMBs and other authorised forex dealers.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll DMBs and authorised forex dealers should, henceforth, accept both old series and lower denominations of USD that are legal tender for deposit by their customers.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe CBN will not hesitate to sanction any DMB or other authorised forex dealers who refused to accept old series or lower denominations of the USD bills from their customers,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The director also cautioned forex dealers to desist from the habit of defacing or stamping dollar banknotes, as such notes always failed authentication tests during sorting.<\/p>\n\n<!-- wp:themify-builder\/canvas \/-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tabko Mohammed The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has ordered Deposit Money Banks (DNBs) and Bureau De Change (BDC) operators to, henceforth, accept old and lower denomination U.S dollars as legal tender.
