{"id":29522,"date":"2021-04-10T07:48:42","date_gmt":"2021-04-10T06:48:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=29522"},"modified":"2021-10-07T00:24:38","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T00:24:38","slug":"nnpc-to-establish-gas-power-plant-in-maiduguri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/nnpc-to-establish-gas-power-plant-in-maiduguri\/","title":{"rendered":"NNPC to establish gas power plant in Maiduguri"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Moses Uwagbalr<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), in collaboration with other stakeholders, is to establish a gas power plant in Maiduguri to address the problem of power supply in Borno.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The Group Managing Director (GMD) of NNPC, Mr Mele Kyari, made this known on Friday in Maiduguri during a courtesy call on Gov. Babagana Zulum.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Maiduguri and its environs has been cut-off from power supply from the National grid for months due to activities of insurgents.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe think it\u2019s very possible to establish a dedicated plant in Maiduguri which will serve the current needs and potentially supply power to other neighbouring cities and even countries.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are seeing a very short time frame; between three to four months, we should be able to put up a power plant that will serve Borno,\u201d Mele said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The GMD said that he was confident that all stakeholders involved, including the gas supplier and power distribution company, would deliver, adding that they also count on the support of Borno Government.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Mele noted that President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s administration had declared this decade a decade of gas, meaning that within the next 10 years there would be significant gas entry into the domestic market.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>He said that they would work with Borno government to make sure that the infrastructure was put on ground for smooth delivery of power and recovery of the cost of power to be supplied.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>In his remarks, Gov. Zulum lauded NNPC for the intervention which, he said, was a big relief to the people of Borno.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Zulum noted that NNPC and its subsidiaries had on several occasions rendered humanitarian support to the state, citing the establishment of 250 bed capacity infectious disease hospital as one of such support.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s event will change the narrative in our state as power is very essential in reducing the magnitude of poverty caused by insurgency in the state,\u201d Zulum said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>While assuring of his administration\u2019s support for the programme tagged \u201cMaiduguri and Environs Emmergency Power Stabilisation and Improvement Project\u201d, Zulum said the Yola Electricity Distribution Company has the infrastructure on ground to link up and supply the people with power from the plant when completed.<\/p>\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-29522\" data-postid=\"29522\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-29522 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Moses Uwagbalr The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), in collaboration with other stakeholders, is to establish a gas power plant in Maiduguri to address the problem of power supply in Borno.
