{"id":29309,"date":"2021-03-31T11:15:54","date_gmt":"2021-03-31T10:15:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=29309"},"modified":"2021-10-07T00:24:34","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T00:24:34","slug":"vehicle-tariff-reduction-will-turn-nigeria-to-dumping-ground","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/vehicle-tariff-reduction-will-turn-nigeria-to-dumping-ground\/","title":{"rendered":"Vehicle tariff reduction will turn Nigeria to dumping ground"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Moses Uwagbale<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The Nigeria Environmental Society (NES) has picked holes in the reduction of import tariff for used vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>NES President Dorothy Bassey said that, the policy was antithetical &nbsp;to good environment and would turn the country into dumping ground.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The Federal Government recently began the reduction of import tariff on used vehicles and tractors from 35 per cent to 10 per cent to lessen the cost of transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Bassey, spoke against the backdrop of improved environment with the use of technology.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>According to her the import duty reduction will encourage the importation of environment unfriendly vehicles that will hieghten climate change with heavy gas emission while unservicable ones litter the society as wrecks.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>She said that, new vehicles were better; but the electric cars were more efficient than the regular ones as the rate of gas emission were comparatively lower and none in the electric ones, therefore environment friendly than the used vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The NES boss, decried the slow rate of technology acquisition and transfer in the real sector; saying; production processes could be made more environment friendly by the use of sensors.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt can increase efficiency in production. This can help reduce wastes.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cBetter filters help in purification thus reducing pollution from the industrial sector.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn farming the use of compost manure instead of inorganic fertilizer reduces chemicals in the soil because those get back into the environment as pollutants.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cOrganic farming is expensive but the use of technology can help the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cOther ways include efficient energy by using renewable energy, rechargeable batteries will help reduce dependence on fossil fuels the causes climate change,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>She added that, the use of monitors on endangered animals, would help to arrest the situation particularly where there is high degree of animal poaching .<\/p>\n\n\n<p>The environment expert, called on Nigerians to embrace energy saving devices to sustain the environment for posterity through the use of technology know.<\/p>\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-29309\" data-postid=\"29309\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-29309 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Moses Uwagbale The Nigeria Environmental Society (NES) has picked holes in the reduction of import tariff for used vehicles.
