{"id":28217,"date":"2021-02-17T18:13:25","date_gmt":"2021-02-17T17:13:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/?p=28217"},"modified":"2021-10-07T00:24:12","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T00:24:12","slug":"namibias-tourism-industry-loses-220m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thefreezonechannel.com\/old\/namibias-tourism-industry-loses-220m\/","title":{"rendered":"Namibia\u2019s tourism industry loses $220m"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Xinhua<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Namibia\u2019s tourism industry lost about US$ 220 million (about 3.2 billion Namibian dollars) from travel-related service as a result of COVID-19, Bank of Namibia governor Johannes Gawaxab, reported.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>According to Gawaxab, the lack of activity due to the restriction of people\u2019s movements and the compulsory closure of leisure and catering facilities due to the dangers of traveling had a devastating effect on the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Tourism is one of the main contributors to the country\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cA study carried out by the sector which is yet to be released showed devastating results.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cAbout 70 per cent of businesses in the sector recorded bookings below 10 per cent of normal bookings,\u201d Gawaxab said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>He said, pre-COVID-19, Namibia received more than 40,000 tourists a month but between September and December 2019, the country only received about 6,700 tourists.<\/p>\n<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-28217\" data-postid=\"28217\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-28217 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Xinhua Namibia\u2019s tourism industry lost about US$ 220 million (about 3.2 billion Namibian dollars) from travel-related service as a result of COVID-19, Bank of Namibia governor Johannes Gawaxab, reported.
